Good evening,
Spring is here, and if you're looking for a way to make a difference in your community, we recommend
signing up for a commission. Commissioners help advise members of the City Council in many areas of governance, including civil service, architectural design, planning, community services and more. See which positions are currently vacant, and
apply today. Applications will be accepted until March 30.
In addition, we've also been getting reports on coyote sightings in the community. If you'd like to learn more, or if you see or encounter a coyote, please read
this guide on the City's website.
Now, here's what's making news for the week of March 21, 2018.

Suspect found in Los Angeles
|

On March 14, San Gabriel detectives surveilled bank robbery suspect Raymond Mendez, 27, into Los Angeles. Mendez, a local gang member, was wanted for a bank robbery that occurred on March 5 at the Bank of America in San Gabriel. Detectives spotted Mendez as he was leaving a nearby residence and followed him as he drove away.
Mendez was subsequently stopped and arrested in the 300 block of West 38 Street in the City of Los Angeles without incident. |

Safety tip: check your smoke detector
|
|
Prevent smoke alarm failures by performing periodic checkups
|
|
The San Gabriel Fire Department would like to remind you to check the battery in your smoke alarm. When a smoke alarm fails, it's usually because the battery is missing, disconnected or dead. Smoke alarms that are properly maintained play a significant role in reducing fire injuries and death.
We've listed several quick tips on using and maintaining your alarm in the link below.
