As we continue into the month of November, be sure to keep up-to-date on two campaigns. First, the San Gabriel Library's teen advisory group will be launching its children's book drive on November 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with food, games, karaoke and more! In addition, the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse is launching its #GivingTuesday campaign in support of the theater's facade restoration campaign.

Finally, please note that City Hall will be closed on November 10 in observance of Veterans Day. City Hall will reopen on November 13 at 8:00 a.m.

San Gabriel Mission statue vandalized

The San Gabriel Police Department is seeking information about a case of vandalism at the San Gabriel Mission.

This past Friday, an unknown suspect or suspects vandalized the Junipero Serra statue with red paint. Surveillance footage revealed an individual (possibly a male) approximately 5' 07", 130-140 pounds wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants climbing on the statue in an attempt to saw the neck area. With no success, the suspect then poured red colored paint on the chest area of the statue.

Council approves new new police in-car video system
City Council wrap-up for November 7 is now online
Last night, the City Council approved two items on the consent calendar along with several new items of business, including a new copy machine for City Hall, a new in-car video system for the police department and new police motorcycles.
San Gabriel teens hold book drive to help local hospital
Your donations help local children 
The San Gabriel Library's teen advisory board will be launching a children's book drive on November 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in support of Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

During this launch event, there will be face-painting, balloon art, food and games organized by San Gabriel Library teen volunteers. Visitors are encouraged to donate new children's books to the drive, which runs from November 18 to December 2.
San Gabriel police, Chinese community strengthen bonds 
Officers reach out to engage, inform 
Over the weekend, the San Gabriel Police Department hosted a community meeting for Chinese-speaking residents. Covering a wide-range of topics from neighborhood watch groups to domestic violence, the meeting sought to bridge a connection between the Chinese-speaking community and the police department by answering questions related to police services.
Ballet, concert and dinner this weekend at Playhouse
Enjoy a taste of India with your concert 
The Ballet Kukan Academy presents "The Sleeping Beauty" for their 10th anniversary recital this Saturday afternoon on November 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mission Playhouse. This original production features ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap.

The following Sunday on November 12 at 5:00 p.m., the Mission Playhouse and the Music Circle present Josh Feinberg on the sitar and Nilan Chauduri on the tabla. After this classical Indian concert, theater-goers may enjoy a taste of India by adding a prepaid dinner to their ticket purchase for a delicious vegetarian Indian meal in the Playhouse lobby. 
Mission Playhouse holds #GivingTuesday campaign 
Funds will be used to restore the Playhouse facade
To help support the Mission Playhouse's historic facade, the Playhouse is embarking on a #GivingTuesday campaign hosted by the California Community Foundation.

There are five levels of recognition for donors, ranging from contributions of $10 to $5,000. Interested participants may donate online or via mail.

A look at the Mission Road crossing over the trench
Weather delays reopening of Mission Road crossing 
Due to weather, the reopening of the trench crossing at Mission Road has been postponed to November 17 while ACE removes the temporary railroad tracks to perform pavement work. Northbound and southbound traffic lanes will be closed to traffic, and pedestrian access at the railroad crossing will be available most of the time. A detour along with additional information can be found here.

In addition, construction on San Gabriel Boulevard between Commercial Avenue and Santa Fe Avenue will occur from now until December 4 while crews remove the temporary railway tracks. The street will remain open with at least one lane of traffic maintained in each direction while construction takes place. Finally, access to Angeleno Avenue will be restricted during the first phase of this project. Business access and pedestrian access will remain available. More information may be found here.
