We're very happy to announce that Marshall Park will officially open on January 20 with a grand opening celebration featuring food, games, entertainment and more. The party runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We'd love to see you there!

In addition, we'd also like to say farewell to outgoing City Manager Steve Preston who retired last Friday after 19 years with the city. On behalf of the city staff, we'd like to thank Steve for his dedicated service and significant contributions to the community. You can read more about Steve's tenure in the interview below.

After 19 years with the city, Steve Preston retired last Friday as San Gabriel's City Manager. Before his retirement, we asked him to reflect upon his service and the city's accomplishments during his tenure.
Marshall Park to open January 20
Grand opening to include food, games, entertainment and more
Please join us for the grand opening of Marshall Park on January 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 311 West Marshall Street. Marshall Park is the city's first new parkland in over a decade, and the new addition will feature a playground, basketball courts and more.

Our celebration will include food, games, entertainment and family fun activities. Parking will be limited, so shuttle service from the Del Mar/Norwood Park & Ride will be provided beginning at 10:45 a.m.
Sandbags now available to San Gabriel residents
Up to 10 sandbags are given per address
Need a sandbag? The city offers 10 free sandbags per address per year. Sandbags are distributed from the Public Works facility located at 917 East Grand Avenue, Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

You can contact the Public Works department at 626.308.2825 during business hours to check on availability.
Free workshop and concert this weekend at the Playhouse
Play in a Day to be held January 13
If you're between 12-17, visit the Playhouse for a special one day theater workshop led by actor Whitney Rydbeck on January 13 at 10:00 a.m. Hone your improvisation skills, work on your acting chops and create an ensemble performance in just a day. Lunch will be provided, so register now before January 12.

In addition, be sure to visit the Playhouse on January 14 as the Olympia Philharmonic Society & Cal State University Los Angeles present "Unfinished...," a free community concert with extracts from von Suppé's "Poet and Peasant Overture," Sibelius' "Karelia Suite," and more.
