Good evening,
Happy holidays from the City of San Gabriel!

As we approach Christmas week, the San Gabriel Fire Department is still accepting unwrapped new toys or sporting equipment for the annual Spark of Love Toy Drive. Both Fire Station 51 (located at South Del Mar Avenue) or Fire Station 52 (located at 115 North Del Mar Avenue) will be accepting gifts for those in need until December 24.

Now, here's what's making news for the week of December 20, 2017.
Council appoints Mark Lazzaretto as City Manager
Lazzaretto to be confirmed at January 2 Council meeting
After an extensive search, San Gabriel officials announced today that Mark Lazzaretto will be appointed as the next City Manager by the City Council. Lazzaretto topped the field of 36 candidates recruited from across the west.

Lazzaretto, 47, comes to San Gabriel from the City of Pomona, where he served as the Development Services Director for over a decade. In his new role, Lazzaretto will serve as the city's chief executive, overseeing the city's staff to meet the objectives of the City Council.
City adopts new marijuana ordinance
A wrap-up of the December 19 City Council meeting is now online
At last night's Council meeting, the City Council unanimously voted to approve a new ordinance that prohibits all nonmedical cannabis activity, including restrictions on personal growing. The ordinance also repealed and adopted new provisions prohibiting commercial uses related to medical cannabis.

More information on this and other agenda items can be found in our City Council wrap-up below. You may also view the full agenda here.
A new start for a life-long biking enthusiast
We take a look at San Gabriel's newest bike store, Jones Bicycle II
As its name suggests, Jones Bicycle II isn't the first bicycle venture by owner Benson Lam. In fact, Lam's newest store comes from a surprisingly long lineage of bicycle stores across the Southern California region.

We talked with Lam to learn about the Mission District's newest store, and what he hopes to offer to the community.
Santa is coming to San Gabriel
Santa will be visiting from December 20 to December 23
It's not a holiday season without Santa riding the fire engine through the streets of San Gabriel! The San Gabriel Fire Department will escort Santa through the city from December 20 to December 23. Click the link below to learn when he'll be visiting your neighborhood.
