Thank you for joining us for Fire Service Day! Despite the slight drizzle, the San Gabriel Fire Department welcomed hundreds of residents who were interested in visiting their local fire department.

As we approach the next weekend, be sure to join us for Play Day at Vincent Lugo Park this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We'll have food, games and more to celebrate the life and art of Benjamin Dominguez.

City Council to initiate study with LA County Fire
A wrap-up of the May 15 City Council meeting is now available
In a unanimous vote, the City Council approved the start of a feasibility study with Los Angeles County Fire. If you've been following our blog, you're aware that the San Gabriel Fire Department was previously engaged in a tri-city fire agreement with San Marino and South Pasadena. Since that agreement was dissolved, a study was commissioned to evaluate the San Gabriel Fire Department and the services it provides to our community.

Draft of the City's 2018-19 budget now online
Latest proposal lists a budget breakdown of each City department
As the City develops its budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year, here's an update on how the next proposed budget is progressing. The wrap-up includes a breakdown of every City department, a look at general fund revenues and more.

With this draft now in place, the City will be progressing to the preliminary budget presentation on June 5 to the City Council. You can follow the progression of this year's budget season by visiting Budget Central.
Splash into summer with an aquatics class
Community Services to offer several aquatics classes for the summer
Summer is around the corner, and Community Services is proud to offer a variety of aquatic programs for all ages!

Programs include swim lessons, lap swimming and water aerobics. In addition, the department is also offering several new programs. Registration begins on May 21 at the Recreation Office, and you may view a full list of programs here.
Summer Nights series begins this summer
Music and entertainment to be featured during the summer season
Join us for San Gabriel Summer Nights for a season of fun, games and entertainment.

Community Services, in conjunction with the Mission Playhouse and Community Development, will be hosting seven summer concerts and three summer movies. Bring the entire family for a relaxing evening under the stars...you won't want to miss this great line-up of summer events!
Mark your calendars: Surf's Up kicks off summer season
Street party occurs on June 14 in the Mission District
Kick off the Summer Nights series in the Mission District on June 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Surf's Up San Gabriel! This year's event will feature a live concert by Woodie and the Longboards, food, a kids zone, fun, games and a beer and wine garden.

Get your bicycles cleaned and tuned on May 26
San Gabriel Police Department to celebrate National Bike Month
In celebration of National Bike Month, the San Gabriel Police Department will be hosting a free bicycle tune-up for San Gabriel residents. Roll by the Public Works facility on May 26 from 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to take advantage of free bicycle washes and tune-ups.
APA Festival continues at the Playhouse
Watch King Hu's "Dragon Inn" and Frank Lin's "American Fusion"
This week, the Mission Playhouse will screen two films as the APA Festival continues. Catch legendary Chinese filmmaker King Hu's 1967 martial arts masterpiece "Dragon Inn" on May 17 at 7:30 p.m. In addition, attend an outdoor screening of Frank Lin's American Fusion on May 20 at 8:00 p.m. in the Grapevine.

The Asian Pacific American festival runs through Saturday, May 26 with workshops, film screenings and performances.
