As we start 2018, be sure to read more about the San Gabriel Library's Play in a Day teen workshop being held on January 13. This is an excellent opportunity for San Gabriel teens to build their team-work skills and public speaking abilities in a class led by a professional actor.

In addition, the San Gabriel Police Department has extended the deadline for this year's Citizen Academy to January 17. More information about the program is included below, including details on how you can sign up.

Council formally appoints Mark Lazzaretto City Manager
City Council wrap-up for January 2, 2018 now online
Last night, the City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Mark Lazzaretto as San Gabriel's new City Manager, effective February 5, 2018. Lazzaretto will succeed Steven A. Preston, who has served as San Gabriel's City Manager since 2009.

Do you think you have what it takes to win this year's dance tournament?

The San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival will host the second annual Kinjaz Dojo annual dance tournament at this year's event. The tournament will be held on February 10 with a grand prize of $1000. Contest rules apply, so be sure to read more about the competition at the link below.
Citizen Academy registration deadline extended
Learn more about law enforcement in this informative class
Learn more about law enforcement by registering for this year's Citizen Academy. Offered by the San Gabriel Police Department, the Citizen Academy is designed to give citizens who live, work, or attend school in San Gabriel an overview of law enforcement. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the men and women who serve their community.

Catch "Metropolis" January 28 at the Playhouse
Silent Sundays at the Playhouse continues
Silent Sundays at the Mission Playhouse continues with "The Complete Metropolis" on Sunday, January 28 at 2:30 p.m.

Set in a futuristic urban dystopia, the film follows Freder, the wealthy son of Metropolis' powerful ruler alongside Maria, a poor worker, as they try to overcome the cast gulf separating the classes of their city. "The Complete Metropolis" will be shown with 25 minutes of missing footage, restoring the film to director Fritz Lang's original vision.
Marshall Community Park set to open in late January
City's first new park in over a decade
After some brief delays, Marshall Community Park is set to open soon in late January. This new park - at the corner of Norwood Place and Jackson Avenue - will feature game courts, synthetic turf, playground equipment and more.
