Help restore the Playhouse's historic facade
Participate in this year's #GivingTuesday donation campaign
After decades of constant exposure to the elements, the Playhouse exterior is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. To help restore the iconic facade, the Playhouse staff has raised over $65,000 in 2017 - but they're looking to raise another $15,000 to help restore and repair the entire building's exterior.

Learn how you can contribute to the restoration of this historic landmark that helped put San Gabriel on the map in the 1920s and 1930s by participating in this year's #GivingTuesday campaign.
Facial hair for a good cause
SGPD participates in "No-Shave November" to support men's health
To raise awareness about men's health, the San Gabriel Police Department is participating in "No-Shave November." For a small optional donation, male San Gabriel police officers and staff members have the option of growing facial hair throughout November. For women, a flower arrangement or a large bow may be worn in their hair.

As part of the campaign, the San Gabriel Police Department is looking to raise money to donate to someone in the community who is battling prostate or colon cancer.
Ballet, youth workshop and silent film this weekend
Silent Sundays continues on November 19

On Sunday, November 19, the Playhouse will screen "The Kid," starring Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Coogan. The production's introduction describes the film as "a picture with a smile - and perhaps, a tear."

New fitness equipment and picnic shelters installed
As you might have read, Vincent Lugo Park recently received several upgrades and additions as part of the city's strategic plan to improve San Gabriel's infrastructure.

Over the last few weeks, new fitness equipment has been installed, including several machines in front of the parking lot along Wells Street in addition to a spot near La Laguna de San Gabriel. In addition, three new picnic shelters have been added, with plans to install a new set of tables and chairs very soon. If you haven't been to Vincent Lugo Park lately, we've posted several photos at the link below detailing the improvements.

Construction crews are currently rehabilitating the roadway along Mission Road
Mission Road crossing to reopen November 17
Construction crews are currently rehabilitating the roadway in front of the Mission Road crossing in preparation for its November 17 reopening. Until then, northbound and southbound traffic lanes across the bridge will be closed to traffic, and pedestrian access at the railroad crossing will be available most of the time. A detour along with additional information can be found here.

In addition, construction on San Gabriel Boulevard between Commercial Avenue and Santa Fe Avenue will occur from now until December 4 while crews remove the temporary railway tracks. The street will remain open with at least one lane of traffic maintained in each direction while construction takes place.
