Second 8-Week Classes Start Oct. 15
Just a reminder that second 8-week classes start this week, Thursday, Oct. 15. There are still open classes but students need to act now to enroll.
Reminder About Sending Group Emails
The move to remote operations has necessitated an increase in operational emails, making it more urgent than ever that we follow the guidelines established for the appropriate use of mass mailing allowing for “Everyone-on-Exchange” to be used for:
  • Alerts the campus community to situations about health and safety risks
  • Provides information essential to the operation or execution of business
  • Notifies the campus community about changes in governance, policy and practice
  • Communicates important information from the president or other college senior leadership
 
Understandably, we are all looking for ways to connect our colleagues and students with the work we are doing virtually during these challenging times. With this in mind, we would like to outline several routes you can use to help share events, information and more, while adhering to the mass mailing guidelines established in operational memorandum 1.A.2 Email Guidelines. 
  • Cityscape: The faculty and staff newsletter. Submit information and story ideas using the universal form.
  • Student Newsletter: Submit information and story ideas using the universal form.
  • Events Calendar: Submit upcoming events for addition to the calendar and promotion using the universal form.
  • Cultivate a list of people who have opted-in to receive your information and email them directly.
  • Virtual Meetings: Make space at the beginning or end for a couple of updates OR ask people to share updates in the chat during the meeting
  
These guidelines were created as a result of information gathered from the campus through the Communications and Governance Survey and recommendations provided by the Communications and Governance Taskforce. The guidelines were then crafted and presented for review and approval by the Executive Council which consists of the leaders of each constituency group and the President. Questions can be directed to the Public Information Office.
Undocumented Student Weeks of Action
Undocumented Student Weeks of Action begin Oct. 19, with a variety of activities are planned into November. All events are sponsored by the Los Rios Dream Resource Centers and are open to undocumented students, students of mixed status, and allies.

In addition, Sandra Guzman from SCC will be conducting a statewide training for Counseling Faculty on Wednesday, October 21st from 10-11am, and Belinda Lum from SCC will be conducting a statewide training for Classroom Faculty on Thursday October 22nd from 2-3pm.

You Can Now Self-Select Pronoun Preferences in ESS
As part of our ongoing commitment to equity and creating an inclusive environment for all, starting October 12, all students and employees will be able to self-select gender pronouns in eServices and Employee Self-Service (ESS). Individuals will be able to select from these choices: he/him/his, she/her/hers, they/them/theirs, name only, or none selected (“none selected” is the default setting for all current and new students and employees).

If a student changes their pronoun, the change will be reflected in Canvas as well as on OGS rosters.

For employees, changes will only be reflected in Canvas (Microsoft Outlook signatures will not be affected and will still need to be manually updated directly in Outlook). 

Step by step directions for students:
  • Log into eServices
  • Click on the Profile tab
  • Select Personal Details
  • Select the biographic tab and choose the preferred option

Step by step directions for employees:
  • Log into ESS
  • Click on the Contact Information tab
  • Select Personal Details
  • Select the biographic tab and choose the preferred option

Note: The first time a student selects or changes their pronouns in eServices, those changes will be captured in Canvas (unless the change was made in Canvas first). Subsequent changes will need to be made in both eServices and Canvas. Employee changes in ESS will also be reflected in Canvas but similarly will need to be updated in both locations with any subsequent changes.
Meet Our Campus WEAVE Advocate
The WEAVE confidential advocate is available to confidentially support or provide information to students or employees who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or sexual harassment. We would like to welcome our new confidential advocate, Dominique Rosete.

Dominique graduated from Sacramento State with Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and History. During her time as a student, Dominique worked to prevent sexual assault on campus, advocated for comprehensive health education, and promoted healthy relationships through the various internships and committees she was a part of. These experiences helped cultivate her passion for public health and social justice.

As a product of the California Community College system, Dominique is looking forward to giving back as a campus resource and providing support to students, staff, and faculty. She is excited to help create safe and inclusive campus communities together throughout the Los Rios Community College District.

President Gutierrez's Office Hour
President Gutierrez will be holding an office hour twice a month during the Fall semester. Office hours will be held on the second Friday at 8:30 a.m. and fourth Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The next upcoming office hour will be Thursday, Oct. 22, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Please look for an email prior to each event to sign up. Zoom info will be sent via a calendar invite on the day before the event to those who signed up.
