Women's History Month
March is Women's History Month, a celebration of women's contributions to history, culture, and society. This is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to US history. The 2024 theme celebrates "Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion” and recognizes women who understand the need to eliminate bias and discrimination from individuals' lives and institutions.

International Women's Day With Laila El-Haddad

As a prominent voice on Gaza, Laila brings a unique perspective on the realities faced by women in Gaza informed by her experience as a media consultant, author, and advocate. Equitable Outcomes Assessment
We are excited to share that Sacramento City College (SCC) has entered a partnership with Hotep Consultants to facilitate an Equitable Outcomes Assessment of practices, policies and procedures to uncover potential barriers to student success at SCC, specifically as it relates to the impact on historically minoritized students. The goals of the assessment are to:
- Assess current practices at SCC - including existing equity-centered work
- Provide recommendations for continued improvements
- Ensure equity is embedded in all areas of campus: policy, practice, and praxis
Invited Experts
This Equitable Outcomes Assessment was developed and will be conducted by invited experts, Hotep Consultants. Prior to working with SCC, Hotep Consultants has collaborated with community colleges throughout the CCC system and served as a strategic thought partner, equity-advancing executive coach, and transformative consultant to provide insight and practical strategies to identify, address, and resolve issues of disproportionate impact and institutional climate.
Key Components
- Document Analysis - A protocol for reviewing institutional information
- Campus-wide survey distributed to all employees and students
- Focus group discussions organized by constituent group
- A series of Equity-Focused Professional Development workshops for employees in Spring 2026
Reviewing Results
Hotep Consultants will facilitate a presentation of findings with the broad campus community where folks will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and respond to the information. SCC will receive a comprehensive final report with the assessment findings, additional examples/notes, references, and access to the assessment instrument.

- Submitting a response to the survey
- Registering to participate in a focus group discussion

It's not too late for students to enroll this spring! The second eight-week (8W2) term begins the week of Monday, March 18. Other late-start classes begin throughout the semester. Distinguished Service Award Application is Now Open!
Do you know a student who is graduating or transferring at the end of the academic year and has demonstrated a commitment to serving the SCC community or the community at large? If so, please encourage them to apply for the Distinguished Service Award!
The Distinguished Service Award is one of the most prestigious awards offered at Sacramento City College. Recipients receive a $1500 scholarship and are honored in multiple ways.
To be eligible students must:
- Be graduating or transferring this academic year. Graduates from Fall 2023 are also eligible;
- Have a cumulative Los Rios GPA of 3.0 or higher;
- Have attended at SCC two or more semesters; and
- Have a proven track record of extensive service and volunteer activities at SCC and/or in their community.
The deadline to apply is Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11:59 pm. More information and the application link may be found on SCC Philanthropy website.

City Theatre Presents: SWEAT - A Tale of Friendship and Struggle
Friday, March 1 - Sunday, March 17, SCC Main Campus (PAC160)
City Theatre invites you to their production of SWEAT! Sweat tells the journey of a group of friends who share drinks, laughs, and secrets at their favorite local bar after work on the factory floor. The close-knit group’s trust is tested during impending layoffs and strikes as they fight to stay afloat and reach for the American dream. Performances are on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 pm., as well as on Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
General admission for this performance is $20.
Cost for students for this performance is $10

Opioid Overdose Prevention: Free Tests and Resources

Student Health and Wellness is having an outreach tabling event to offer FREE Narcan and Fentanyl Test Strips, along with harm reduction tips, to our students. Narcan and Fentanyl Test Strips save lives! Even if it is not for yourself, it is good to have in case a friend or family member may need it. These resources can be crucial in preventing opioid overdoses.
