Celebrate PRIDE Month

June is Pride Month. This month-long celebration demonstrates how Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Americans have strengthened our country by using their talent and creativity to help create awareness and goodwill. The history and legacy of LGBTQ individuals can be explored on the Library of Congress website.

Parking Update

Los Rios will not be selling semester or daily student parking permits for Summer 2023. This means students will not be ticketed for a lack of permit during the term if they park in designated student parking.

The current staff parking decals/permits expired on June 1, 2023. The new decals have been ordered but are delayed. As a result, LRPD will not enforce staff parking areas for the summer session, but all other parking regulations will be enforced (i.e., red zones, timed zones, disabled parking, etc.). When the new permits arrive, LRPD will send out an email on the process for picking up the new permits.

Please Note: Student parking permits will be sold for Fall 2023. Los Rios was able to temporarily waive parking fees during the pandemic using federal relief funding. Because those funds are no longer available, parking fees will be reinstated after the summer session. All parking fees are used to support parking infrastructure, maintenance, and services.

Emergency Resources

To ensure you receive critical emergency notifications, make sure your contact information is up-to-date. Login to Employee Self Service, click "Employee Information," and then "Emergency Alert Information." You will then be able to update your information including your cell phone number and non-work email. Also, check out the Los Rios Police Department website for Emergency Procedures, including what to do if a shelter-in-place happens on campus.

Know a student who is petitioning to graduate this summer? Make sure they know to submit their petition by the Friday, July 7, 2023 deadline.

Jobs and Internships on Handshake

Encourage students to activate or update their profile and resume in Handshake! Handshake is the online career search platform where Los Rios students and alumni can find job, internship, and volunteer opportunities, and can sign-up for virtual career fairs, online workshops, and employer events.

SCC Closed June 19 for Juneteenth Holiday

All Sacramento City College offices will be closed and no classes will be held on Monday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a U.S. public holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865.

Passing of a Colleague

With great sadness, we share news of the passing of Chris Daubert, professor emeritus of the Art Department at Sacramento City College where he taught painting and new media.

Before fully realizing his dream of becoming a professional artist and educator, Daubert was a designer and builder of fine hardwood furniture, a craft he perfected over a span of ten years. He also exhibited his drawings, paintings and large multi-media installations locally and nationally for many years. 

Daubert felt that he'd won the jackpot when he was offered a tenured position at Sacramento City College. He loved the campus, the diverse student body, its programs and majors, and his colleagues. Concurrent with teaching, he served as curator of the Gregory Kondos Gallery for twelve years. He retired from SCC in 2017.

Last year, Daubert and his wife, Dana, found themselves in the fortunate position to make a $1 million gift to Sacramento City College to establish the Christopher D. and Dana Daubert Endowment for Art Education to support the management of the Gregory Kondos Gallery.

Daubert passed away on May 22, 2023 with Dana by his side.
