Stay Healthy During Hot Weather

Take some simple steps to beat the heat this summer and keep yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your pets healthy! Remember to drink plenty of water; wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing; and avoid outside activities during the hottest part of the day, which is from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Cooling down a few hours a day will allow your body to recover and tolerate the heat better for the rest of the day. Check out other summer health tips.

Hiring the Best/Equity Representative Training

If you are interested in serving on a hiring or interview committee, join our online session to complete these essential training courses. Together, we’ll cover important details for serving on hiring committees in our “Hiring the Best” training, followed by a comprehensive session on becoming an effective Equity Representative.

This training fulfills the requirements of the EEO Plan Component 8: Training for Screening/Selection Committees as mandated by Title 5 Regulations, section 5300 et. seq. It also meets State Professional Development Guideline B: Staff development, in-service training, and instructional improvement.

Enhance Communication with NameCoach in Outlook

We're excited to announce that NameCoach, the equity-driven tool already in use within Canvas, is now available as an add-in for Microsoft Outlook. NameCoach allows you to record your name pronunciation to your email signature, ensuring that colleagues and students can address you correctly and respectfully.

To start using this feature, simply add the NameCoach add-in to your Outlook and record your name. We encourage all employees to use this helpful feature.

Summer Tutoring is Available

SCC is offering both in-person and online tutoring this summer! This service is free to students and can help with subjects across the curriculum. Encourage students to connect with a tutor now to receive support the entire summer session! 

Earn Stipends While Advancing Your Education in Early Care and Education

Attention Pre-K, TK, Expanded Learning, and Learning and Care Educators! We have an exciting opportunity for you to earn stipends while completing your studies. If you're working at least 15 hours per week with children in Sacramento County, you may qualify for a stipend of up to $150 per unit for college coursework completed at any Los Rios College. Simply maintain a grade of C or better in your coursework, and you could receive financial support to help you achieve your educational goals.

The Summer/Fall 2024 application is now open. To participate, you need to reapply and confirm your employment each semester. Applications are handled through the Sacramento County Office of Education, but don’t worry – our dedicated ECE faculty and student support specialists at Sacramento City College will guide you through every step of the process. This program is designed to support those working with young children, helping you balance your job and education effectively.

Summer Pathways to Transfer Program

The Summer Pathway to Transfer Program is a FREE initiative aimed at students planning to transfer to a CSU or UC by Fall 2025. This program provides essential transfer support workshops from Wednesday, August 7 through Friday, August 9, followed by ongoing support throughout the academic year until Spring 2025. Our goal is to ensure students are fully prepared for the transfer process, increasing their awareness and readiness.

Join us for our Free Immigration Legal Services Clinic, where expert assistance from CHIRLA Immigration Paralegals and Department of Justice Representatives are available to assist with a variety of immigration matters. 

Services include:

• General Immigration Consultations

• DACA Renewal Applications

• Advance Parole Applications

• Naturalization Applications

CHIRLA will cover fees for DACA renewals, advance parole applications, and naturalization applications. No registration is required!
