Preparing Students for Transfer
This fall is a great time for students to learn more about their transfer options! All Los Rios students are invited to take part in the following events and activities.
Transfer Days Begin This Week
Los Rios Transfer Days start this week, Wednesday, September 27 through Thursday, October 5! Check out the various events at each of the four Los Rios colleges, featuring more than 50 colleges and universities. Students will have the opportunity to meet representatives from California State Universities (CSUs), Universities of California (UCs), private and out-of-state universities, and historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), and get information about academic programs, transfer requirements, how to apply, and more.
Transfer Workshops
The Los Rios Transfer Centers are featuring more than 25 transfer-related workshops throughout the fall semester. Direct interested students to view the schedule of virtual workshops and RSVP for the sessions they are interested in attending.

Fall Grad Petitions Due by October 6
All students planning to graduate at the end of this semester should make sure they take all the necessary steps to complete their graduation petition by the Friday, October 6 deadline.

Los Rios Leadership in the News
Los Rios College Presidents Dr. Lisa Cardoza (American River College), Dr. Albert Garcia (Sacramento City College), and Dr. Art Pimentel (Folsom Lake College), along with Sacramento State President Dr. J. Luke Wood, are featured in the September 2023 issue of Comstock’s Magazine. The article titled “Meet the Presidents” highlights the region’s newest educational leaders and their focus on student success.
Presidents Cardoza, Garcia, and Pimentel also sat down for a “fireside chat” on September 15 about the importance of education for the region’s Latino/a population at the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 State of Hispanics event held at Folsom Lake College’s Harris Center for the Arts. 16th Anniversary of AANAPISI
This year's Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Week is from Monday, September 25 through Sunday, October 1 and marks 16 years since Congress established the AANAPISI program on September 27, 2007, to improve the availability and quality of postsecondary education programs to support low-income and first-generation Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students. Sacramento City College is proud to be an AANAPISI-designated institution! Join us in celebrating the many accomplishments of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students and educators from our community.

Get Ready to Transfer with Feria de Educación
Feria de Educación is hosted each year by Sacramento State, the CSUs, and Univision to empower thousands of Spanish-speaking parents and students with information and resources to help them succeed in California’s educational system and pursue higher education. This year, Feria de Educación and the Transfer Corner will be held on Saturday, October 7 at Sac State.
The Transfer Corner helps current community college students prepare to transfer to a four-year university. Advisors will be on hand to meet with students to review their transcripts and help them plan their next steps. If they have already been admitted to Sac State, Feria de Educación can help students better plan for their upcoming transition, learn the requirements for their major, or create an academic plan.

Physical and Mental Health Services for Students
Physical Health
Our Health & Wellness Centers provide a wide range of services to our students, including free pregnancy testing, which was just recently launched. Free flu vaccines will also be available this fall, as soon as they are released. The majority of services are free to students, however TB skin tests and some vaccines may have an associated cost. Other services we offer students include:
- Health and illness assessments
- Recommendations and referrals to community/campus resources
- First Aid for minor injuries and illness
- Health requirements for academic programs
- Immunizations/Titers
- TB Skin Testing/Risk Assessments
- Over the counter medications
- Covid self tests
- Sexual health concerns/education
- Pregnancy testing
- Condoms
- Assistance with finding health insurance
Mental Health
For the 23-24 school year, all currently enrolled students have access to up to 17 free mental health sessions per academic year.
- Brief Therapy: Students can meet with a LRCCD mental health therapist 5 free sessions per school year. Support is available in-person and virtually. Students can self schedule online.
- TimelyCare Teletherapy: Students have access to 12 free sessions with a licensed therapist.

Passing of a Colleague
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Gene Robert Sellers.
Sellers passed away June 29, 2022, peacefully at his home in Sacramento at the age of 90 with Linda, his loving wife of 44 years, by his side. He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, served in the Marines, graduated from Ashland University, Ohio and earned a master’s degree from the University of Utah. He moved his wife and three sons to Davis, California to teach at Davis High School. He later joined the faculty at Sacramento City College where he served for more than 50 years, and taught classes for Golden Gate University. Sellers taught with passion and humor the subjects most people try to avoid - including statistics, algebra, and calculus. He was frequently voted by students as the best teacher and there usually was a waiting list to get into his classes. He shared his gift of education as an author of more than 15 successful textbooks. Sellers loved teaching, somehow making math fun, and continued to teach after retirement until the age of 88.
Sellers asked that no service be held. In lieu of flowers, he asked for donations to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
