Honoring Our Classified Professionals
The SCC Classified Appreciation Luncheon, held on Friday, May 3, was a fun and interactive event dedicated to honoring the committed Classified Professionals of Sacramento City College. Hosted by Managers in the brand new Panther Cares Courtyard (by the Child Development Center), the luncheon featured a scrumptious menu provided by our Pacific Dining partners. From BBQ chicken quarters to vegan sausage, attendees enjoyed a variety of delicious dishes, along with door prize opportunities.
Classified Professionals came together to celebrate and connect over food and camaraderie. It was a wonderful gesture of appreciation from the college community to these essential members of the SCC team.

Chipotle Fundraiser for PTK Beta Eta Psi
Support PTK Beta Eta Psi by dining at the Chipotle! Join us on May 8 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and help raise funds for our chapter.
Visit the Chipotle location at 4001 Freeport Blvd STE 102 in Sacramento on Wednesday, May 8 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. or place a pick up order to-go using Z9RXALM in the 'promo' field. Please note that delivery orders and orders placed at different times or locations will not count towards the fundraiser.

Don't miss the monthly Grants Clinic on the second Thursday each month, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with Sue Byrne, Director of Grants Management. This is an opportunity to get help with finding grants, completing an application or getting clarity on where to start.

SIR and Chill Lab

Students transferring to a UC or CSU must submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) to officially accept their admission offer by June 1st to secure a spot! To assist, we're hosting a SIR and Chill Lab to guide students through the process step by step. Encourage a student to drop by and get the assistance they need!

Student Cover Letter Workshop
Students are invited to join us Tuesday, May 7, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. for an online career preparedness workshop to perfect their cover letters. A well-crafted cover letter is an applicant's chance to make a great first impression and stand out to potential employers. In this workshop, students will learn what to include and how to prepare a compelling cover letter that highlights your strengths and skills. Spread the word!

May 7 is National Fentanyl Awareness Day
Fentanyl is involved in more deaths of Americans under 50 than any cause of death, including heart disease, cancer, homicide, suicide and other accidents. Illicit fentanyl is driving the recent increase in US drug overdose deaths. It is odorless, tasteless, extremely potent, and used to make fake pills disguised as Oxycontin, Percocet and Xanax. You can’t tell which pills contain a lethal amount of fentanyl.

Important Updates for Financial Aid
New Enrollment Intensity Criteria for Pell Grant:
Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, the Pell Grant will no longer be based on traditional enrollment statuses like full-time, three-quarter-time, half-time, or less-than-half-time. Instead, a new term called "enrollment intensity" will be introduced. Enrollment intensity is calculated as the percentage of full-time enrollment at which a student is enrolled, rounded to the nearest whole percent. This change aims to provide more accurate financial aid disbursements tailored to individual student circumstances.
Cal Grant and Student Success Completion Grant:
Please note that the Cal Grant and Student Success Completion Grant will continue to be awarded based on the traditional full-time, three-quarter-time, half-time, and less-than-half-time enrollment statuses.
