Landscaping Project on Campus

You may have noticed some landscaping happening at the main campus lately. This is part of a Los Rios districtwide project for drought tolerant landscape and irrigation improvements. At SCC, the goal of the project is to eliminate most of the turf and ivy, replacing it with low-water planting. We also will be adjusting and changing irrigation systems to accommodate new plantings. This is a 45-day project and should be completed around March 9, 2023.

Foundation Scholarships Available

Nearly $500,000 in scholarships is available to Los Rios students! Scholarships can help students pay for their education or related expenses. Encourage students to submit their application early so they have time to put together any required materials (Note: Students may ask you for a letter of recommendation). The deadline to apply is Friday, March 3.

Another Club Day, In Person & Online!

Students have another chance to check out Club Day this week! Tell them to stop by Wednesday, Feb. 15, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., either in the Quad or online!

Encourage students to come find out about our student clubs and meet people who share their interests. They can also find out how to start a new club on campus.

Interested in the medical field but do not know where to start? Then come demystify the path with AvenueM and see how they can help you on your path!

Grad Petition Deadline is March 3

Only three weeks left! For students who are planning on completing their associate degree or certificate requirements this semester, Friday, March 3 is the deadline to petition to graduate. More information on Commencement to come.

Passing of a Colleague

It’s with a heavy heart we share news of the passing of Henry Joseph Montijo who was a beloved Electronics Faculty Professor at SCC for more than 20 years. Henry retired in the early 90s, yet his impact is still felt and appreciated by countless students and colleagues.

Prior to Henry's service at SCC, he was a decorated Korean War Veteran who served with the 25^th Infantry Division, 27^th Infantry Regiment, "The Wolfhound Pack." He lived a full and courageous life and passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Please keep Henry’s family and friends in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Presidents' Day Weekend is Coming

SCC will be closed Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20 in observance of Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays. No classes will be held and all college offices will be closed. View the Spring 2023 Academic Calendar for all holidays and deadlines this semester.
