A Joyful Celebration of Our Classified Professionals
Sacramento City College came together in full spirit today to celebrate our Classified Professionals at the 2025 Classified Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, May 9. Held on the sunny and breezy Panther Cares patio, the event was a true show of appreciation, connection, and Panther pride.
The event began with every attendee receiving a special SCC polo shirt—just one of many thoughtful touches that made the day memorable. A hearty BBQ lunch, courtesy of our Pacific Dining team, set the scene for a lively afternoon, where DJ Remme kept the vibe going strong with music and laughs.

West Sacramento Center Hosts Kinders Go To College
About 300 students from three elementary schools, half of whom were kindergartners, spent the day at SCC's West Sacramento Center on Friday, May 9, exploring 18 interactive learning stations on topics such as robotics, photography and chemistry.
Kinders Go To College is an opportunity to get young students and their families thinking and getting excited about college early on, and to feel like it is within their reach.
This was the twelfth iteration of the longstanding initiative, a collaboration between Sacramento City College, the Yolo County Office of Education (YCOE), UC Davis Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP), Washington Unified School District, and the City of West Sacramento. This year marked the program's return after a hiatus, with the last event held in 2019.

Los Rios Community College District Update on COVID-19 Protocols
The Los Rios Community College District has been following Cal/OSHA’s non-emergency COVID-19 standards, which officially expired on February 3, 2025. Given these changes, we are updating our COVID-19 protocols.
What’s Changing:
- The District will no longer be actively monitoring COVID-19 cases or symptoms.
- Students no longer need to report positive COVID-19 cases.
- Employees must still report any positive COVID-19 cases, as required by Cal/OSHA guidelines (through February 3, 2026).
- Exposure notifications will no longer be issued to classrooms or workspaces.
- While the District is no longer required to supply masks or COVID-19 tests, Student Health & Wellness Centers will continue to provide them as long as supplies are available.
Preventing the Spread of Respiratory Illness (COVID-19, Flu, RSV, etc.)
If you are sick, help prevent the spread by staying home until you’re well. You can resume normal activities when both of the following have been true for at least 24 hours:
- Your symptoms are improving, and
- You’ve been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

We will be joined by SHP and WHA representatives who can assist in answering any questions you or your dependents may have. These webinars are available to all Los Rios employees, regardless of whether you are enrolled in health plans offered by either carrier. Textbook Buyback & Rental Returns
Selling Textbooks
At the end of each term, the bookstore will buy back textbooks based on the book’s current market value and if the book is scheduled to be used by an instructor next term. Students can sell back their books online via the bookstore's partner website, ValoreBooks, or in person at the college bookstore. Learn more.
Returning Textbook Rentals
For students who rented textbooks from the bookstore this semester, they are due by Thursday, May 22. Students can return rentals in person at any Los Rios bookstore location or by shipping rentals directly to the college bookstore. Note: Students should not use the Library drop box to return rentals, as it would not be possible to identify to whom the books belong, resulting in non-return fees.
