National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time dedicated to spreading hope and vital information to people affected by suicide. We can all help prevent suicide.

If you or someone you know is experiencing an emergency, call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 or call 911 immediately.

Tutoring Changes!

New school year, new name. The Tutoring and Learning Center, or TLC for short, was formerly called the Learning Skills and Tutoring Center or LSTC. Along with the new name are some changes to better support our students!

An updated Tutoring Information Canvas page is available for those courses where the TLC offers tutoring - this page will be sent directly to faculty through Canvas. There is also a new Canvas integration for the TLC scheduling app, Penji! Enable this in your course navigation to make scheduling even easier for students.

Pick Your Bin

SCC has introduced a new three-bin waste collection system to minimize what we put into the landfill. Help us by making sure you pick the right bin!

Faculty can be paid up to $5,000 for converting and developing OER for their courses or serving as faculty lead mentors for OERadoption/conversion.

Applications are due Sept. 2. FT and PT faculty are encouraged to apply!

✨Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards Ignite Possibilities ✨

Soroptimist of Cameron Park/El Dorado Hills and the Soroptimist of Vacaville chapters are seeking grant applications from women who serve as the primary earners for their families & require financial assistance to continue their education or training.

Study Abroad Program in Italy Next Spring

The Los Rios Study Abroad Program is now accepting applications for students to study in Florence, Italy for the upcoming Spring 2023 semester. Florence is an inspiring, vibrant city in which to live, study, and explore. Participants will immerse themselves in college courses in art, sociology, economics, business, and kinesiology while exploring cobbled streets, ancient gardens, and culturally-rich galleries and museums, and discovering modern street art, regional celebrations, energetic professional football, and wildly fascinating history replete with inventors and artists.

The program will run February 4 - May 5, 2023 and will be led by FLC sociology professor Diane Carlson. Please encourage interested students to not let this life-changing opportunity pass them by! Applications are due Friday, November 4.
