Join Us for Webpage Wednesday!

Those who are responsible for maintaining area webpages are invited to join Webpage Wednesday, Sept. 20, 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., via Zoom.

Our students rely on the SCC website for a wealth of knowledge on how to navigate the campus environment and their academic experiences on a daily basis. As employees, we expect to be able to handle form submittals, search programs, review enrollment and other professional needs on our website day or night. As such, an important piece of our campus culture and infrastructure our website needs constant care and support. Webpage Wednesdays is an opportunity for us to dedicate a planned, synchronous time to connect with colleagues on website utilization topics and update our content to help ensure our website is a great tool for student success. Join us to:

• Tour your area of webpages and learn how to submit website changes through the Marketing & Website Support Request form. 
• Learn about updates from our PIO, Crystal Lee, and Webmaster, Dawn Pederson.
• Work with your department/program/division team members to create a cohesive, accessible, and functional website for users to enjoy.

Championing Equity: AB 540 Regional Training

All faculty, staff, student services personnel, as well as students, are invited to a free training on AB 540 on Sept. 29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Sacramento City College. Build community with practitioners supporting undocumented students, learn strategies to integrate the AB 540 FAQ on your campus or in your organization, and help to ensure that students receive the same information about AB 540 at any college or university in California.

Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the SCC API Center!

Stop by the API Center on Sept. 26, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival! The API Center will be providing lanterns and paint supplies for students to share their creativity. Lanterns will be displayed in the Student Center.

One of the many traditions celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival is enjoying delicious and sweet mooncakes with family and friends. The API Center wants to share this tradition with SCC by having mini-mooncakes during the event.

Wellness Writing for Stress Relief

Join us for a "Write Your Way to Wellness" workshop on Thursday, September 21 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm via Zoom. Learn about the therapeutic power of wellness writing and journaling, which can help you decompress when life's many demands start to overwhelm you. Los Rios Transfer Days

Youth Symposium on Community Wellness

Encourage students to join the “Youth Uniting to Build Community Wellness,” Sept. 30, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Sacramento City College. Presented by NAMI California, this Northern Region Affiliates’ Youth Symposium is a free event, featuring interactive presentations and panels from youth leaders across the Capital region along with lunch and networking opportunities for attendees.

LibreTexts Workshop for Faculty

The LibreTexts team is happy to announce an upcoming, in-person workshop, October 6, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at CRC to showcase LibreTexts’ open homework and assessment platform, ADAPT.

Join LibreTexts founder and Executive Director, Dr. Delmar Larsen, as he demonstrates how instructors can use ADAPT to augment existing and newly constructed OER textbooks with summative exercises and embed them in LMSs, LibreTexts textbooks, in a standalone application, and in-class clickers.

Discussions will demonstrate how the ADAPT homework system empowers faculty to build and use existing questions in multiple modalities. Participants will learn how to build auto-graded questions based on four technologies – H5P, WebWork, IMathAS, and native (QTI) – that can be used interchangeably to allow for maximal impact.

Dr. Larsen will also introduce the LibreStudio platform for construction, storage and distribution of H5P assessments. Participants will be able to join LibreStudio to create and share H5P assessments, review the H5P of other authors, and build/join a community within Studio.

We will conclude with an overview of the analytics infrastructure to provide real-time learning analytics to instructors on student progress with pre-defined learning objectives.

Thanks to a generous grant from the California Education Learning Lab (CELL), ADAPT is available at no cost for all California instructors and students for the next four years.

CRC will host this full-day workshop for faculty from across Northern California in the Winn Center, Room 150. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Community Sign-Up for Los Rios Emergency Alerts

Please spread the word that members of the community – such as vendors, neighboring schools and businesses, and parents – can sign up to receive Los Rios Emergency Alerts. To receive regular, ongoing alerts, folks just need to text LOSRIOS to 67283 from their mobile phone.  

Campus visitors can also sign up to receive temporary alerts. This can include people who are attending athletics or arts events on our campuses. To sign up for temporary alerts, they need to text LREVENT to 67283 from their mobile phone. People will be automatically unsubscribed after 48 hours. 

Your Voice Matters – Register to Vote!

National Voter Registration Day is celebrated every year on a Tuesday in September, and this year, it’s Tuesday, September 19. First organized in 2012, it is the nation’s largest, nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to celebrating our democracy by registering as many eligible Americans to vote as possible through the collective efforts of thousands of volunteers, nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools, libraries, and election officials. The next California election will be the 2023 County Elections, followed by the Presidential Primary Election on March 5, 2024.

Passing of a Colleague

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Gerald Anderson.

Anderson taught physical education at Sacramento City College and coached the men's basketball team for over 30 years, periodically coaching swimming and other sports. He died of natural causes in his Templeton home on August 1, 2023, 9 days shy of his 66th wedding anniversary.

Anderson is survived by his devoted wife, Jacqueline, all four of his children, 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and their rescue dog, Leia.
