Thanks for Celebrating City!

We had a great open house on Friday, celebrating Sacramento City College and letting the community know we're open and ready to serve our students.

More than 50 programs, departments and clubs came out to table, in addition to countless more demonstrations, activities, and classroom and lab tours. Guests were able to enjoy our beautiful campus, vibe with live music courtesy of our Music Department, play games, visit the Kondos Gallery, grab dinner provided by our neighbors BBQ & Burgers, and more!

A special thanks to our friends at Sacramento Area Bike Advocates, who provided free bike valet services to our guests.

Web Directory Launches

In 2019, while the Los Rios colleges and District Office were moving our websites into a single content management system, we identified the need for a more efficient and consolidated directory management strategy. At that time, a quick solution was implemented to support timely website launches. After collecting feedback from employees and students and expending great creative and technical effort, we are excited to announce the launch of a new website faculty and staff directory management tool that dramatically improves upon the current system.

Some key new features:

  • Employee information will be accessible across all Los Rios websites rather than exclusively only at the employee’s "home" college.
  • You can display multiple job roles and related contact information for each.
  • The new tool empowers employees to manage their own information.
  • More accurate information is displayed as it is connected to data sources like PeopleSoft.

Review Your Information

If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to review and update your profile using our easy-to-follow employee checklist (even if you've submitted web directory changes in the past). Then, visit the new employee directory on the public-facing site as well on the employee-facing site to see how your information displays.

Voices at the Table Internship Program

The marketing, advertising, and communications industry influences so much of what we see and hear on a daily basis. So why aren’t those faces and voices as diverse as the communities they represent?

Advertising agency 3fold Communications’ Voices at the Table internship program is for BIPOC students looking to get into the marketing, advertising, and communications industry. You will learn industry best practices and 3fold’s values which encourage drive, empathy, and challenging the status quo. The program strives to create space for you to find your voice in our industry, find a seat at the table, and ultimately change the makeup of the industry in this region. Learn more about this internship program on Wednesday, April 26, at 12 p.m. on Zoom.

Public Criminal Trial

Please share with students about a special "Public Criminal Trial" on Monday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Student Center. This event is open to students who are interested in Law, Public Policy, or the Administration of Justice. RSVP required; email or call Kelly Gould at gouldk@scc.losrios.edu or 916-558-2485.

COVID Updates

From Dr. Sandra Wyrick, Interim Director of the Student Health & Wellness Centers, and Dr. Iser, Medical Director:

There have been some small COVID-19 guideline updates from the CDC and CDPH as of March 25, 2023. The LRCCD COVID-19 Decision Chart and forms have been updated to reflect these changes.

Changes

If you are symptomatic and/or you test positive, you will now isolate for 5 days instead of 10 days if symptoms are no longer present.

After ending isolation (no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and symptoms are improving), confirmed cases may remove their mask sooner than Day 10 if they have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart. If antigen test results are positive, the person may still be infectious and should continue wearing a mask and wait at least one day before taking another test.

Submission of the COVID Reporting Form (Appendix C) within 2 days (48 hours) if you tested positive for COVID-19 and you were on campus within 14 days prior to your positive test collection date or when symptoms first started.

Important Things to Remember

You should consider testing as soon as possible to determine infection status and follow all isolation recommendations above if testing positive. Knowing you are infected early enables:

Earlier access to treatment options, if indicated (especially for those who may be at risk for severe illness)

Notification of exposed persons (close contacts) who may also benefit by knowing if they are infected. If testing negative before Day 3, retest at least once preferably a day later, during the 3–5 day window following exposure.

Persons previously infected in the last 31–90 days should also test, even if asymptomatic and regardless of vaccination status, given the increased transmissibility and increased repeat infections with the circulating Omicron variant.
