FAFSA Simplification Coming Soon
Congress recently passed the FAFSA Simplification Act, which will streamline the financial aid process for students and families. Most changes will be effective with the 2024-2025 application, but due to the updates, the application will be available later than the traditional October release date (the Department of Education has said it could be released sometime in December). The California Student Aid Commission will make changes to the California Dream Act application that will closely align with the FAFSA changes.

SCC Students Volunteer at Día De Los Muertos Event
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members and SCC Business students volunteered at Cesar Chavez Elementary school’s Día de Los Muertos event on November 2. Students assisted for a collective 40 hours to create a wonderful cultural experience for the school's students, families, and community! SCC’s volunteers created a positive impact by creating paper flowers, building the community altar, decorating, leading activities, and chaperoning the event. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Honor and Support the Transgender Community
Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. Transgender Day of Remembrance was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. Quitting Smoking Starts With Day 1
Are you a smoker and would like to quit? Thursday, November 16 is the date for this year's Great American Smokeout which challenges smokers to give up cigarettes for 24 hours. Quitting smoking isn’t easy. It takes time and a plan. Let the Great American Smokeout event be the day to start your journey toward a smoke-free life! You’ll be joining thousands of people who smoke across the country in taking an important step toward a healthier life and reducing your cancer risk.
