September Vaccination Clinics on Campus
The main campus will be holding on-site vaccination clinics Thursday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for any student or employee who is not yet vaccinated. The clinics will be facilitated by Walgreens as part of the federal vaccination rollout program. Remember, all employees and all students who access district and college facilities (including in-person classes or student support services) will need to provide evidence of their first vaccine dose by Oct. 1, 2021.

Vaccine Influencer Training
In our efforts to get everyone in our college communities vaccinated, it is important that we recognize and understand the vaccine hesitancy that may be present in our diverse student population so that we can better address specific concerns, fears, and apprehensions.
As students have questions about this issue, it is important that we provide our faculty, staff, and administrators with resources to help provide information and address concerns in an inclusive and equity-minded way. That’s why we have partnered with the Sacramento County COVID-19 Collaborative and the Sierra Health Foundation to provide a COVID-19 Vaccine Education and Training webinar exclusively for Los Rios faculty, staff, and administrators. The webinar is part of a series of “Vaccine Influencer” trainings our partners are leading in and around our communities.

WEAVE Confidential Advocate
Dominique Rosete is the Los Rios WEAVE Confidential Advocate, whose role is to support students and staff at all four Los Rios campuses who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault/harassment, or sex trafficking. This semester Dominique will be available for in-person meetings (by appointment only) at:
- SCC – Mondays from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Campus Interventions Office
- FLC – Tuesdays from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Center for Excellence
- ARC – Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Learning Resource Center

State University of New York: Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL):
In a nutshell, COIL is about connecting ourselves and our students across geographical and cultural differences. It connects you and a colleague in another country to develop collaborative projects that your students do together using online tools. It becomes one aspect of your course, supporting your student learning goals, giving you and your students the opportunity to engage hands-on with your course concepts and new ideas and – most importantly – exploring them from different cultural perspectives. You do not already need to have a connection with an instructor or university abroad to participate. COIL will help us make connections or build on those we may already have.
COIL is one initiative that could help reconnect returning faculty and students to our larger world in Spring or Fall 2022 through direct contact with our peers in other parts of the world. For more information join us for an Introduction to COIL presentation at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, then register to join SCC Global Studies COIL Orientation Session at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9.
Global Innovators Fellowship (GIF):
It is necessary to recognize, mark, and make sense of the monumental historic nature of the global pandemic as we continue to reinvent and renew our courses and our teaching practice. The SCC Global Studies Program supports faculty to deepen and extend awareness of the global context in which we, our curriculum, and our students live. A stipend will be provided to selected GIF participants. Please complete the GIF application by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10. Faculty from across the college’s disciplines are encouraged to apply, including disciplines that may not traditionally be viewed as having global content or resonance. You as an instructor should have an interest in connecting yourself, your curriculum, and your students more intentionally to a global dimension of your curriculum.
Participating in GIF requires a commitment to:
- Meet for 90 minutes once a month between September 2021 and April 2022.
- Identify a GIF project related to a course topic and work on that project 5 hours/month (including our meeting time).
- Present the results of your project to the college community.
GIF will help participating faculty to:
- Deepen efforts towards creative reinvention of selected portions of their curriculum with contextualized global content, examples, and connections intentionally embedded into existing courses.
- Work within a supportive collective of globally conscious colleagues from a variety of disciplines and meta majors to nurture a globally connected, creative approach in our courses.
- Receive guidance and support from the Global Studies Coordinator and guest scholars to work on global themes and competences in your curriculum through an anti-racist and justice-oriented lens that can be infused into their existing curriculum.
- Share process and summary of new global content during the Spring 2022 SCC Global Studies Fair.
