Another Semester in the Books!

Congratulations on making it to the end of the spring semester and the end of another academic year! We know that fully online classes, virtual student support services, and remote operations have been challenging for many students, faculty, and staff. Mobile Ready Workforce/Desktop Replacement

As we begin to gradually resume on-campus operations over the next few semesters and, given the availability of COVID relief funds with which to do so, we intend to build a new level of mobility and agility into our workforce. Consequently, we hereafter expect to replace most employee desktop computers with laptops, ensuring that the same computing capabilities are provided to meet the needs and responsibilities of the position, while allowing us to be agile in case the pandemic parameters shift yet again. Reopening Cleaning Protocols

As part of our continuing commitment to the health and safety of our employees and students, we have developed a districtwide Sanitizing & Disinfecting Schedule and Guidance based on the local, county, and state agency guidance for sanitizing and disinfecting as well as recommended practices and procedure for helping to prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Los Rios custodial teams have increased the frequency of daily sanitizing and disinfecting practices to ensure our facilities continue to stay safe and healthy for our community. The schedule and guidance is being provided in addition to those efforts already being taken by our custodial employees, and represents anticipated practices for the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters. Summit for the Future Recording

If you weren’t able to attend the May 6 Los Rios Summit for the Future, the video recording is now available on the college’s reopening website. The reopening website includes a wide variety of resources as well as a form for input and feedback.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

During the month of May, we pay tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success. The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum have curated stories and events in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month .

Anti-Asian Hate Talk

All are invited to a special presentation by Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Chi Soo Kim on Tuesday, May 18, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event is sponsored by the United States Attorney’s Office and American River College President Melanie Dixon. Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim made an anti-Asian hate presentation to the Los Rios community last May and received high praise from the audience. Above the helpful legal information she provided, she, as a daughter of Korean immigrants who knows firsthand about facing anti-Asian incidents, connected impressively well with the Los Rios community. Her presentation is a must-attend event for all those who disapprove of the current anti-Asian climate and wish to know how to address it.

Free 'Chronicle' Subscriptions Thanks to Libraries

The Los Rios libraries have decided to subscribe to a site license for Chronicle of Higher Education, which means all employees now get unlimited access to this resource from anywhere.

Please note that if you currently pay for a private subscription to the Chronicle, you could cancel it and create a new account with the Los Rios site license and maintain the same level of access.

Besides showcasing our best student work (in Graphic Design, Web Design, Animation and 3D Modeling, and Video Game Design) of the 20-21 school year, the online exhibit features videos about each of our classes, and current and former student testimonials about our program.

This is the final issue of Cityscape for the Spring 2021 semester. This summer, we'll be on a bi-monthly schedule starting June 7 and will return to our weekly editions in the fall. Hope you all get to enjoy some rest and relaxation this summer – you deserve it, Panthers!
