Global Makers: Featuring Didacus Odhiambo, Farmers With a Vision, Kenya
Join us for Global Makers, a series highlighting individuals around the world who create solar cookers and energy-efficient technologies to reduce fossil fuel consumption in cooking. This session features Didacus Pius Odhiambo from Farmers With a Vision in Kenya, who will discuss his energy-efficient stove designed for on-site production in homes across the region.
Taking place on Monday, February 24, from 9:15 to 10:15 am, this event provides a unique opportunity to learn from global innovators working toward sustainable cooking solutions.

SCC Students Join National BioManufacturing Challenge!
A team of Sacramento City College students has advanced to the final phase of the BioMADE Academic Challenge: Future Foods, a national competition focused on biomanufactured food solutions.
In collaboration with UC Davis’ Agricultural and Chemical Engineering Departments, SCC students are researching how to repurpose agricultural waste into food using fungi. Their team is one of only five selected nationwide to present in Washington, D.C., later this February.
SCC Professor Jessica Coppola played a key role in connecting SCC students to this opportunity, emphasizing the rare hands-on research experience for community college students. Check out the article to read more!

Scholarship season is here, and SCC students are working hard to secure funding for their academic and career goals. Last year, thanks to the dedication of faculty and staff reviewers, 349 students received over $300,000 in scholarships!
You can make a direct impact this year by volunteering as a scholarship reviewer. Your time and support help students achieve their dreams.

Join CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights) for an informative session where they will provide an overview of their services, highlighting the support they offer to the community. After the presentation, a roundtable discussion will take place, offering an open space for you to ask questions and engage in meaningful dialogue. This is a great opportunity to learn more and get your inquiries addressed in an interactive setting.

UndocuAlly Workshop for Faculty: Creating a Safe and Supportive Campus
Come join us for an essential UndocuAlly training Workshop designed to help faculty create a welcoming and supportive environment for undocumented students. Participants will be provided with resources available to students at all four Los Rios campuses.
This workshop will cover:
✅ An overview of the legal landscape affecting undocumented students
✅ Strategies to make your classroom and campus more undocu-friendly
✅ Guidance on Los Rios policies, including what to do if ICE comes to your classroom
✅ Resources available to undocumented students across all four Los Rios campuses
This professional development activity is limited to employees of the Los Rios Community College District and invited participants.

📽️ SCC Professor’s Film Selected for Sundance!
Sacramento City College’s Theatre & Film Professor Roberto Chacon-Gutiérrez Young (aka Roberto Fatal) is making waves in the film industry! Their short film, En Memoria, co-written and co-produced with Ali Meyers-Ohki, has been officially selected for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The film was created with a highly inclusive cast and crew, including SCC students, and was supported by the City of Sacramento’s Innovation and Growth Fund.
This milestone highlights SCC’s commitment to fostering creativity, representation, and professional opportunities for our students. Be sure to share this inspiring news with your students and encourage them to explore SCC’s Theatre & Film programs!
