Panthers of all ages came to Celebrate City last Friday, April 19! Thanks to all who pitched in and made it a success!
A special congratulations to Surangi Frazier and the entire History department for displaying outstanding school spirit and drawing a crowd with their trivia games and lots of fun! They are the recipients of the new “Celebrate City Celebrates YOU!” award, which will be passed on each year to a different winner. Next year, it could be you and your team! As the award travels to our many different desks and offices throughout the campus, it will collect the unique stories, experiences and joy that make up the rich texture of Sacramento City College. We hope next year you join us again as we Celebrate City!

Black Student Success Week
The California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office is excited to announce the return of Black Student Success Week, to be held this Monday, April 22, through Friday, April 26! This year’s theme, “Building a Better Future Together: The Urgency is Now,” will focus on innovative approaches to ensure Black and African American students succeed in community colleges. Students, staff, and faculty are welcome to join us for a week of engaging discussions, empowering workshops, and fruitful collaboration.

Commemorating Earth Day
Each year on April 22, more than a billion people celebrate Earth Day. Across the world, people take time to engage in service work and learn more about how we can be better stewards of the planet. Did you know fossil fuel-powered transportation is the single biggest source of air pollution in California? On Earth Day, help clear the air by trying an alternative form of transportation! Just one light rail train car can take 150 automobiles off the road, and one bus can take 60 cars off the road.
This Earth Day, Monday, April 22, Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) is offering systemwide free rides! SacRT light rail vehicles minimize air pollution as they are 100% powered by electricity. Most SacRT buses either use compressed natural gas (CNG) which produces fewer pollutants, or are 100% zero-emission electric battery-powered vehicles. And don't forget that the Universal Transit Pass allows eligible students to use SacRT bus and light rail services at a lower price during the semester.

Celebrate Earth Day the Sac City way!

Join us and celebrate Earth Day in the quad for a day filled with music, activities, and opportunities to learn and connect with local organizations passionate about environmental sustainability.
We’ll have live music performed by our talented Commercial Music Ensemble, a clothing and book swap to promote reuse and reduce waste, and engaging activities for all ages. Explore educational information provided by esteemed organizations such as SMUD and the Sacramento Climate Coalition, and discover practical ways to be part of the movement for a greener, more sustainable future!

Call for Mini Grant Applications
Do you have a great idea for a project that will improve the student experience, the teaching and learning environment, contribute directly to equitable outcomes for students and/or impact student success? Propose it as part of the Mini Grant process!
Mini Grants may be used to buy equipment and supplies, or to help support research, coursework, or other projects/activities directly related to the college’s educational mission.
Mini Grant awards are made possible by the support of donors to the SCC Fund. Because of their generosity, this year we will be able to fund grants of up to $4,000.

Student Elections Are This Week
Please encourage students to vote in student elections! Voting will be conducted online via eServices on Tuesday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 24, from 8:00 am to 11:30 pm each election day. Currently enrolled students can vote for Associated Students of Folsom Lake College (ASFLC) leaders and the district wide student trustee. Voting only takes a few minutes and makes a lasting impact on the campus environment and the student experience!

Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual assault, also known as sexual violence, is one of the most serious, pervasive, yet underreported crimes in the world. According to the CDC, over half of women and almost 1 in 3 men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes, yet only 12% of victims report the incident to the authorities.
Wednesday, April 24 has been designated Denim Day – wear your jeans and denim to help raise awareness and show support for survivors of sexual violence.
Los Rios' WEAVE Confidential Advocate is available to confidentially support or provide information to students or employees who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or sexual harassment.

Summer Fees Due - Financial Aid Assistance Available to Students
Summer 2024 fees are due Monday May 27th, 2024. We encourage students to complete the FAFSA/CADAA or have paid fees by this date to avoid being dropped from courses. By completing the FAFSA/CADAA, students are also applying for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG) or the Los Rios Promise Grant.
The California Student Aid Commission offers free Cash for College webinars designed to answer common questions about applying for financial aid. During these webinars, financial aid experts are available live to answer questions for students and families. In addition, various community partners are hosting financial aid workshops.
Los Rios students will begin to receive financial aid notifications in eServices in mid-May; around this same time, CCPG’s and Promise Grants will be posted to student accounts which will then waive enrollment fees for summer 2024, fall 2024, and spring 2025.
