November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people.

HSI Award Supports Students on Their Path to Success
We’re excited to share that SCC has received a new Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Grant! This grant, titled “Caminos de las Ciudad,” will extend our Guided Pathways efforts and focus on helping Latinx and low-income students transition from the Freshman Seminar class first semester into the second semester, second year of college and beyond! Students don’t stop needing support when they are through with their first semester, and we want to provide robust guidance as they continue their coursework and prepare for transfer or the workforce.

Trans Awareness Month Event: Being Who You Are
Listen to speaker Nghia Nguyen provide words of encouragement as she shares her experiences as a Vietnamese trans woman and give insight into her advocacy work. SCC Pride and API Centers collaborate to host this exciting event November 7 at 2 p.m. in LRC 105.

Roe v Wade & The Dobbs Decision
Come to learn more about Roe v Wade and the Dobbs decision, listen and share your thoughts on November 3 at Noon in BUS 203 and on Zoom.
There will be a brief explanation about Roe v Wade and the Supreme Court's recent Dobbs decision. Afterwards, we will open the forum for students to ask questions or share thoughts about the topic.

STEMinar: Navigating Early Careers in STEM
Students who are curious about navigating an early career in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) should attend a STEM Careers Panel on Thursday, November 3, 12:00 to 1:00 pm, to hear stories from young STEM professionals about what inspired them, what they do, and any advice they might have for anyone considering a career in STEM. Speakers are Elizabeth Reyes Gallegos, Entomology and Nematology Ph.D. student; Arthur Dibeton, Materials & Process Engineer and; Eduardo Castaneda, Clinical Laboratory Scientist. There will be a Q&A session at the end to ask any specific questions you may have

Free Spay or Neuter for Dogs & Cats
The CRC Vet Tech program needs a few young, healthy female cats and male dogs for our VT 120 surgical assisting lab, who will be performing spay and neuters.
Second year students will be learning about general anesthesia and surgical assisting under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian who will perform the surgeries and a licensed RVT who will oversee the anesthesia procedure.
Criteria:
- Cat or dog must be healthy and friendly/good with people.
- 4 months to 4 years old.
- Must provide proof of current rabies vaccination.
- Owner or agent must be able to come on a consecutive Tuesday/Thursday or Thursday/Tuesday and leave the pet for the morning. Check in time approximately 8am. Check out 10:30am for exam day, check out 2-3pm on surgery day.
