The Caring Campus Long-Term Planning Committee (CCLTPC) is continuing our intentional and purposeful work for student success, and we have some exciting news!

Carrie shared the following: Brenda Buckner’s enthusiasm for Caring Campus is contagious. She always has a can-do-attitude and is very supportive of our students, and it’s not a surprise that she embraced these efforts. Using both Warm Referrals and Caring Communication, she really embraced the call from our classified professionals to ensure that our actions are creating a welcoming environment for our students. It was so rewarding to see our hard work put into action. Fantastic job Brenda, and congratulations for being the first Caring Campus Champion!
New Updates
Caring Campus Champions is beginning this semester. The goal of this spotlight is to recognize classified professionals who are actualizing our virtual or traditional behavioral commitments: (1) Caring communication, (2) Warm referrals, (3) Knowing other departments, and/or (4) Reaching out to students.

Webpage Wednesdays are beginning in January 2022. This is a college-wide effort to ensure that our webpages are an accurate and timely resource for both students and employees. More information will be shared later this semester via email, as well as a calendar invite with zoom link information.
  • Who: College-wide effort.
  • What: Two-hour session to review and edit student- and employee-facing webpages.
  • When: January 12, 2022 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. 
  • Where: Zoom
  • Why: Website correctness is one of the most repeated and talked about ways we can help our students. Our website is a vital source of information for all students and employees, and an important piece of our campus culture. Webpage Wednesdays will allow us to dedicate an allotted time to ensuring our website is a tool for student success.

One of our goals included the creation of two campus resources. Please help us continue our work with keeping these up-to-date. Please be sure to read the “Information” tab in each document before using.
  • Chart of Services – To better inform our students of the resources and services that are available to them throughout our College and centers.
  • Campus Contact List – To better assist our College with detailed information about who to contact when employees have questions.
Help Students Spring Forward in 2022
Students will need to be fully vaccinated (meaning both shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna two-dose vaccine, or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine) to enroll in Spring 2022 in-person classes or access on-campus services like the library, computer labs, or in-person tutoring. With the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, students can get their second shot three weeks (or 21 days) after their first. With the Moderna vaccine, students can get their second shot four weeks (or 28 days) after their first. Priority enrollment for spring classes begins Monday, November 22, so students need to act now. Students will not be able to enroll in in-person Spring 2022 class sections if their vaccinated status is not cleared in eServices.

All students who have verified that they are fully vaccinated before Monday, November 1 will receive $100! If students are fully vaccinated, but haven't updated their status in eServices or haven’t submitted proof of their second vaccine (if applicable), they need to log on now. For more information about the $100 cash incentive and how to upload verification, direct students to the vaccine webpage.

To learn about local vaccine availability, encourage students to visit the Sacramento County vaccine website. This site is updated frequently with information about eligibility and vaccine sites in our area, including how to access vaccines via healthcare providers. They can also visit the State of California's MyTurn website if they do not live in Sacramento County or want more information about eligibility.
CA Community Colleges Fall 2021 HBCU Celebration Week
Students can learn more about the California Community Colleges Transfer Guarantee Pathway to Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) during a full week of virtual events Monday, October 25 through Friday, 29. Events include HBCU academic program information sessions, panel discussions with students who transferred from community colleges to HBCUs, funding your HBCU education, and more. Road to Redesign Coffee Chat
Come to an informal Zoom meeting on Monday, November 1st from 10 am -11 am to learn more about the redesign process to develop new, districtwide models for Admissions & Records and Financial Aid with the goal of consolidating services across campuses for better student equity and engagement. Flexible Spending Account Open Enrollment Begins November 1
Open enrollment for the Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Limited Use FSA, and Dependent Care FSA will begin on Monday, November 1, and will continue through Friday, November 19. This is the time to enroll for the 2022 calendar year. As a reminder, current elections do not roll over, and you must re-enroll each calendar year that you wish to participate. In addition, please note that this is not the time to make changes to your medical, dental, and vision elections (the enrollment period for these benefits is held in the spring).

Watch for an email announcement from Employee Benefits containing enrollment instructions, as well as detailed information about the account options.
Training Resource for Faculty
Los Rios has launched a training resource to assist faculty in becoming dynamic instructors in the online course modality. The Los Rios Foundations of Canvas Course Design course is offered entirely online over two weeks and covers four key areas – using canvas, employing regular, effective and substantive contact, applying universal design for learning/accessibility, and developing assessments. To date, over 600 faculty have completed the training with excellent reviews. 

While the training is required of new online instructors, all faculty are eligible to participate, regardless of prior experience. Faculty are eligible to receive a stipend of $591 upon completion of the course through June 30, 2022. Thereafter the stipend is reserved for adjunct faculty. LGBT History Month
LGBT History Month is an annual month-long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. It was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-school history teacher Rodney Wilson. LGBT History Month provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. In the United States, Canada, and Australia, it is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11 and to commemorate the first and second marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 for LGBT rights. Passing of a Colleague
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of adjunct Music Professor Jeffrey Hoover. Hoover primarily taught Music Theory and directed the Jazz Band. He had a lifelong career in music, teaching at many schools and universities, as well as composing original work that received recognition and has been performed by many artists.

A memorial will be held Sunday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m., in the Capistrano Concert Hall at Sacramento State University. Some of his original compositions will be performed in his honor.

Memorials may be made to the Jeffrey Hoover Memorial Scholarship at Sacramento State.
President Gutierrez's Office Hour
SCC President Michael Gutierrez is holding scheduled office hours during the fall semester. The last office hour of the semester is scheduled for:
