National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time dedicated to spreading hope and vital information to people affected by suicide. We can all help prevent suicide.


If you or someone you know is experiencing an emergency, call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 or call 911 immediately.

Student Senate for CA Community Colleges Training

Calling all SCC students, come join the California Community College Student Senate in a special leadership training on September 9 from Noon to 5 PM. An RSVP is required to attend.

Pride Lounge

Stay on Track

The Native American Student Program is launching into the semester with a workshop for Native/Indigenous students to help prepare your agendas/calendars for the Fall semester!


Join us at 2 p.m. on August 30 in PAC 133 - we will be providing calendars and other organizational tools for you to use and take with you. We will also show you how to best utilize the items!


Snacks and light refreshments will be provided. Stay until the end for a prize drawing - two winners will be chosen!

Tutoring Changes!

New school year, new name. The Tutoring and Learning Center, or TLC for short, was formerly called the Learning Skills and Tutoring Center or LSTC.


The TLC offers the same great tutors that are here to support you! Use Penji either from your Canvas course navigation bar or by visiting the Penji website to make an appointment or join a tutor for a drop-in tutoring session.

SCC has introduced a new three-bin waste collection system to minimize what we put into the landfill. Help us by making sure you pick the right bin!

✨Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards Ignite Possibilities ✨

Soroptimist of Cameron Park/El Dorado Hills and the Soroptimist of Vacaville chapters are seeking grant applications from women who serve as the primary earners for their families & require financial assistance to continue their education or training. 


Both will provide cash grants to the award recipients for a minimum of $1,000. Apply at www.bit.ly/LYDA-apply by Nov. 15!

Study Abroad Program in Italy Next Spring

The Los Rios Study Abroad Program is now accepting applications to study in Florence, Italy for the upcoming Spring 2023 semester. Florence is an inspiring, vibrant city in which to live, study, and explore. Participants will immerse themselves in college courses in art, sociology, economics, business, and kinesiology while exploring cobbled streets, ancient gardens, and culturally-rich galleries and museums, and discovering modern street art, regional celebrations, energetic professional football, and wildly fascinating history replete with inventors and artists.

 

The program will run February 4 - May 5, 2023 and will be led by FLC sociology professor Diane Carlson. Do not let this life-changing opportunity pass you by! Applications are due Friday, November 4

We will walk you through how to highlight your most relevant, transferable skills and achievements, address gaps due to a disability or health condition, and bring in experience from your classes and volunteerism.

The scariest part of searching for a job is often the interview process... not knowing what they're going to ask you, sweaty hands, all eyes on you - it can be intimidating! We will give you tips to ace the interview and increase your chance to land the job. Learn about the art of disability disclosure, including how to talk about your disability as a strength and source of valuable workplace diversity.

Sharpen Your Career Building Skills

The CRC Work Experience program is offering a variety of career workshops in September. You can learn more about interviewing skills, developing an effective job search plan, writing a winning resume, and how to network, among others.
