Sacramento City College Celebrates the Joan Didion Learning Resource Center
On Tuesday, September 24, SCC officially renamed its library to the Joan Didion Learning Resource Center. Didion was an SCC student who would later become a journalist, novelist, memoirist, essayist, and screenwriter who wrote some of the sharpest and most evocative analyses of culture, politics, literature, family, and loss.
Join us in celebrating this significant milestone at the Joan Didion Learning Resource Center, and visit the new exhibit that pays tribute to one of our most celebrated writers. Thank you to everyone who participated in this special event, helping us honor an icon of literature and culture!

Resume Building Workshop for Immigrants/Refugees
The Los Rios Refugee Career Pathways program will present a Resume Building Workshop on September 30, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at the Ethan Way Center, located at 1410 Ethan Way, Sacramento, CA 95825. During the workshop, you'll learn about55 resume structure, key formatting tips, and how to present your unique skills to potential employers in a way that stands out. Transfer Center CSU Application Workshop
The Transfer Center is hosting a CSU application workshop on Wednesday, October 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Rodda Hall North - RHN 138; the Transfer Center. We will be printing out transcripts and helping students navigate the application and fill it in correctly.

SCC’s Professor Danny Romero Recipient of PEN Oakland Award!
Exciting news! Our very own SCC English professor, Danny Romero, has been honored with the prestigious 2024 PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Award for his poetry collection, "Mi Vida Oakland (and other poems)". This is an incredible achievement, celebrating his remarkable contribution to the literary world. He’ll be formally recognized at a virtual ceremony this December, and we couldn’t be more proud. Let’s come together to celebrate and acknowledge this outstanding accomplishment from one of our own!

The Los Rios Reentry Education programs have teamed up with The Access Project to provide clean slate services to all community college students, including current and former students. At this clinic, you can get a copy of your record from the Department of Justice, your RAP analysis, paperwork assistance, and much more. To get started, you MUST register in advance!

Los Rios students and staff are invited to ARC to welcome Julissa Arce, a leading voice for social justice, immigrant rights, and education equality, and the best-selling author of “You Sound Like a White Girl”. She will be speaking on Monday, September 30, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in ARC’s Student Center Cafeteria.
This FREE event is open to all Los Rios students and staff, but an RSVP is required.

Disability as Diversity Poster Contest Extension
The submission deadline for the Los Rios Poster Contest, “Celebrating Disability as Diversity”, has been extended to October 15, 2024!
This contest is open to all Los Rios students, inviting you to create artwork that reflects the theme: Disability = Diversity, Strength, and Pride. You can incorporate messages like "Disability Rights are Human Rights" or "Celebrate Neurodiversity," or come up with your own ideas.
Winners will receive prizes and have their posters displayed across Los Rios campuses, including Sacramento City College’s new Disability Cultural Center. Submit your design and don’t miss this extended opportunity to showcase your creativity!
