Every Los Rios student deserves an education that matches their ambition. With your help, finances don’t have to be a barrier for our students who dream of a brighter, healthier, and more just tomorrow for themselves, for our community, and for our world. At Los Rios, we want to ensure that education is accessible and affordable for all. To meet this goal, we have created the SCC Panther Scholars scholarship. These scholarships are campus-focused programs created from funds that are pooled together into a general scholarship for deserving students.
This upcoming Giving Tuesday, Tuesday, Nov. 30, we invite you to invest in the future of our students by making a gift to Panther Scholars. Through transformative scholarship student support, we can boost social mobility and educational equity, preparing a diverse group of students to make our world greater.
About Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea—a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Why Contribute to the Panthers Scholars Scholarship?
As you may know, most of our students are low-income and eligible for less financial aid than students attending four-year institutions. Due to the high cost of living in the Sacramento region, most students work 20 to 40 hours per week to make ends meet. Scholarships allow students to take more units, work fewer hours, focus on school, and complete their goals in less time.
Ways to Give

- Enroll in a payroll deduction
- Mail a check, payable to the Los Rios Colleges Foundation, to the college's Philanthropy Office and designate that it's for the SCC Panther Scholars scholarship

Preparing for Spring Registration
On Friday, November 12, students received an email with their Spring 2022 priority registration appointment. This date and time is their first opportunity to enroll in classes via eServices, but they can register any time following that appointment throughout the registration period.

Keeping the Dream Alive Conference
The Undocu-Leadership Student Strand is part of the November 18-19 Keeping the Dream Alive Conference. The strand is specifically for undocumented college and high school students and offers knowledge, information, and awareness to achieve educational goals, excel in leadership, etc. Student staff, student leaders, and educators/practitioners should submit a paid registration to the general conference. Global Makers Virtual Event
The SCC Global Studies Program and Makerspace have collaborated with the Solar Education Project to create an opportunity for the community, solar cooker enthusiasts, clean cooking advocates, educators, and leaders in environmental sustainability to meet leaders in solar cooking, making, sustainability, social change, and economic growth.
In this first of several workshops, join us on Thursday, November 18, at 9:00 am to learn how to make a Heat Retention Basket Cooker with change leader & maker Grace Chepkemei from Eldoret, Kenya. You'll also learn about future Global Maker events. Featured Global Makers join us from their homes and workshops in Kenya, Haiti, Mexico, Lesotho, Italy, and southern California.

Great American Smokeout
Are you a smoker and would like to quit? November 18 is the date for this year's Great American Smokeout. Quitting smoking isn’t easy. It takes time and a plan. Let the Great American Smokeout event be the day to start your journey toward a smoke-free life. The Los Rios Community College District is tobacco-free, smoke-free, and vape-free.
