Fall Schedule is Live
The Fall 2022 class schedules are now available. Students receive their fall enrollment appointment on Thursday, April 7 and priority enrollment begins Monday, April 18.
Spring Break is Almost Here
Spring Recess is Monday, April 11 through Sunday, April 17. Offices will remain open Monday, April 11 through Thursday, April 14, and will be closed Friday, April 15. 

Cityscape will be taking a break of its own. The next issue will be Monday, April 25.
Gowns for Grads
We are all so excited that we will be having an in-person commencement this year! But, for some of our students, the cost of the cap and gown is simply unaffordable and this might prevent them from participating in this incredible milestone event in their lives. 
 
Our Gowns for Grads program, which is now funded through the Panther Cares Fund, can help ensure that every student who wants to participate in commencement will be able to do so. The cost of a cap, gown and tassel is $40. We invite the campus community to join us in making a gift of any size to the Panther Cares Fund so that we can say yes to every student in need who does not have the necessary funds to pay for regalia.
 
Dean Andre Coleman and the Office of Interventions will be coordinating this program and helping our students connect with this resource so that on May 18, they will be prepared to walk across the stage with their fellow graduates.
Mini Grant Application Reminder
Do you have a great idea for a project that will improve the student experience, the teaching and learning environment, contribute directly to equitable outcomes for students and/or impact student success? Propose it as part of the MiniGrant process!

Applications are being accepted until April 27. Awards will be made up to $3,000 per Mini Grant. The number of grants awarded will vary, depending on the amount of funding available. Visit the Mini Grant Application webpage for more information about the application process, eligibility and award process.

Mini Grants are made possible through the support of generous donors to the SCC Fund. Many employees give to the SCC Fund, and in so doing, they provide crucial resources that help improve the services our campus can provide and make an important difference to the students we serve.
City Ways Scholarship Reminder
SCC is committed to City Ways, which values personal connection, communication, flexibility and clarity, and relatable materials, to support our students throughout their educational journey despite challenges and adversity. 
 
Five students will be awarded scholarships of $1,000 each and will be featured at the Fall 2022 Convocation.
 
Requirements:
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at Sacramento City College (open to employees)
  • Applicants plan to enroll at SCC in Fall 2022
  
Deadline: April 18, no later than 11:59 p.m.
29th Annual Classified Retreat
Classified Professionals don’t forget to register for the Classified Retreat! Come together for great workshops, and an opportunity to connect with each other and share successes. 

Once you have registered: 
  • Notify your supervisor of your interest (your classified team will work to get official approval, but it’s important that your supervisor knows your schedule so they can plan appropriately)
  • Go to the Canvas site and log in to access information about the workshops and lists of materials you might want to have on hand for the food-focused workshops (yum!)
  • If you’re planning to attend the Sketching in Graphite/Charcoal or the Beer: Science in a Glass, check Canvas in the coming weeks for when to pick up supplies on campus

The Week of the Young Child
The Week of the Young Child is held each April to celebrate the importance of early education and shine a light on the teachers and programs serving young children across our nation. It is also a time to advocate for the value of high-quality care. 
 
At Sacramento City College we would like to recognize the staff at the Child Development Center (CDC) for their compassionate care of the young children of our students, staff, and community. The staff and students at the CDC returned to in-person learning in August 2021 with the support of our administration and Early Childhood Education Instructional Program (ECE) and have been serving children from toddlers to kindergarteners in full and part-day programs. Beginning this semester, the program is also offering care to children under two years of age. The cost of care is supported for some families by state and federal grants.
Big Data, Finance and More!
The UC Davis Agricultural and Resource Economics program talks about the Managerial Economics Major at UC Davis on Wednesday, April 6 at Noon via Zoom. The event will cover a day in the life of a Man Econ major with one of the program professors as well as information about the new Diversity and Inclusion in Research initiative, Education and Career Training, research training, and upcoming events. Don’t miss this opportunity!

PTK All-California Award Winners
Congratulations to Mohabat Shams for being named 2022 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-California Award Winners! Grades, leadership, and community service are all used to determine selection to the All-California teams. PTK and Sacramento City College recognize and celebrate the academic achievement of our students and continue to provide opportunities for growth as scholars and leaders. 

Students selected to the All-California team represent some of the best of the two million students enrolled in California's 116 community colleges. Like so many in our college and communities, there have been new and unprecedented challenges over the last two years. The 2022 winners including Mohabat should be exceptionally proud of their achievements during these difficult times. Again, congratulations! 🎉
Financial Aid and Admissions & Records Redesign Reports
Thank you to all the staff and faculty who have participated in listening sessions and spoken with the teams working on the Los Rios-wide Financial Aid and Admissions & Record redesign project. Feedback from all of you has been, and will continue to be, a vital and incredibly valuable part of the process of determining how to best improve services for students in these critical areas. Our partner organizations in this work (Blue Icon in Financial Aid, and AACRAO in Admissions and Records) have completed their initial assessments based on their interviews and research, and we have posted those reports on the Financial Aid and Admissions & Records Redesign website. The web page also has a webform so anyone can provide input or feedback into the reports.
Introduction to Serving QTBIPOC Students and the Pride Learning Community
Join this workshop on Tuesday, April 19, 12:00 to 1:30 pm, to learn about how to best support LGBTQ2IA+ students of color (QTBIPOC). Participants will gain a basic understanding of racial identity, gender identity, and sexual orientation and how those intersect to impact the student experience. The workshop will conclude with an introduction to the Pride Learning Community as well as practical steps to ensure our faculty, staff, and managers can effectively serve and support QTBIPOC students.
Using LinkedIn Learning in the Classroom
All faculty are invited to a presentation on Friday, April 8, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm focused on how to use LinkedIn Learning in the classroom. Presenter is Ryan Zervakos.

Bridging Transfer Equity
All students are invited to a series of Zoom events focused on Bridging Transfer Equity. These sessions bring together our Los Rios, Sac State, and UC Davis resource centers to network and inform students of resources and opportunities within these communities. While these sessions are geared for specific communities, they are open to all students. 
Creatures of Light and Form: Topographical Explorations
The Cosumnes River College Art Gallery’s newest exhibit brings together artists from the community to celebrate photographic explorations of landscape, body and architectural surfaces.

Photographers include Juliet Haas, Tim Messick, Michael Radin, David L. Robertson and Farrell Scott. These artists are founding members of PHOTO Sacto and have been gathering to share their expertise and passion for the fine art of image making and to motivate the practice of creating new work. 

The opening reception will take place Thursday, April 7 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the CRC Art Gallery. Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 4:00 pm and Wednesday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm or by appointment by calling (916) 691-7561. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to enter the gallery.

I-9 Documentation
Because of COVID-related closures, beginning March 2020 the Los Rios Department of Human Resources (HR) temporarily allowed newly hired employees to provide copies of I-9 documentation. As we transition back to normal operations, we are now required to view the original I-9 documentation you provided to your hiring manager/HR representative during your New Hire Orientation/New Hire Paperwork completion. In-person review of original I-9 documentation will take place April 4-8 at these times and locations (you may go to any campus or district office to show your documents regardless of where you are working):

April is Arab American Heritage Month
National Arab American Heritage Month is a time for celebrating the history, contributions, and culture of the diverse population of Arab Americans. This month recognizes the contributions of the 3.7 million members of the Arab community in the United States. In medicine, law, business, technology, civic engagement, government, and culture, Arab Americans have been, and continue to be, an invaluable part of the mosaic of American life.
