ACCJC Reaffirms SCC's Accreditation

Sacramento City College is proud to share that our college's accreditation is officially reaffirmed by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). This notification comes in the form of an "action letter" and the site visit team’s "Final Team Report." Both documents, along with our college’s Institutional Self-Evaluation Report, can be viewed on the Accreditation webpage.

The visiting team offered two commendations that are worth bringing to your attention:

Commendation 1: The team commends the College for its institution-wide commitment to promoting and sustaining student equity and achievement, as well as for its research reporting, data sharing, and use of data in support of equity work. (I.B.6, II.A.2)

Commendation 2: The team commends the College for its systematic approach to professional development, particularly its thoughtful, intentional approach which includes all employee groups and has a clear, constant focus on Equity. (III.A.11)

We are very happy that SCC has had its accreditation reaffirmed for the next seven years. Behind this wonderful outcome are hours and hours of work by all the teams that contributed to our ISER as well as by those who met with the site visit team. This result, this reaffirmation, is more than just a requirement we’ve fulfilled. It is confirmation that what we do here at the college is really good work on behalf of our students. We thank everyone who had a hand in making that possible!

Migration to Microsoft Teams

A Message from the SCC IT Department

Hello SCC Community,

As you are all aware, we have been using Skype for Business communication platform for the past several years (calling, instant messaging, screen sharing, etc.). As this platform approaches its end of life, we will be transitioning over to Microsoft Teams. This is a district-wide project with multiple phases, and each college’s IT will be implementing this system in their respective campuses. This migration will require replacing the current AudioCodes phones in your offices since they don’t support the MS Teams platform.

What this entails for you: No actions are required now; this is just a heads-up. Please look for emails from SCC/DO IT regarding this project.

Project start/end time: Depends on when the phones will be received. More information to come.

Phase I – SCC IT is working to determine the number of phones and headsets we will need for our campus.

We understand that switching from familiar software may seem daunting, but Microsoft Teams is essentially the cloud-based evolution of Skype for Business, with modernized features. All basic Skype features will also be in Teams. With your collaboration, we anticipate that this change will go quite smoothly. Keep in mind IT will provide training and tutorial resources for all our employees for Microsoft Teams in the future.

Monthly Grants Clinic Starts Feb. 9

Curious, confused or keen to learn more about grants? Sue Byrne, Director of Grants Management, will be running a monthly grants clinic on campus on the second Thursday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Maybe you’re working on an application and need help with a particular section, or are searching for that elusive grant, or have spotted a grant and are wondering “what now”?

Make an appointment to meet Sue or simply pop in at RHN-277 (Public Information Office) to discuss all things grant-related. Clinics will start this week, Thursday, Feb. 9.

Districtwide Marketing Efforts Update

Our college and districtwide marketing team is constantly updating and evolving our marketing efforts in response to our growing focus on access at our colleges. We remain focused on growing enrollment at our colleges and creating a public “face” for our institutions that reflects our focus on student success and our organizational commitment to equity and inclusion. In the latest iteration of the district's annual marketing campaign, our goal is to get students who dropped out during the pandemic to come back and invite people who have never enrolled at Los Rios to consider it.

We are focusing on multilingual mass distribution including marketing touchpoints like direct mail, digital advertising, billboards, radio (both digital and terrestrial), calling campaigns, community-based events and more! Celebrate City!

Celebrate City with us this Thursday, Feb. 9, from 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.! This event will be held both in person (RHN 258) and online.

Take a little time out of the day to meet up with colleagues, learn about some of the great things going on at the college, have some snacks, and play a game or two.

Club Day is this week, Thursday, Feb. 9, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Quad or online.

Encourage students to come find out about our student clubs and meet people who share their interests! They can also find out how to start a new club on campus.

Clothing Swap Drop-Offs This Week

Swap pre-loved clothing pieces that are still in good, wearable condition with your peers! We are inviting all of SCC's students, faculty, and staff to participate in a clothing swap by bringing in clothing that is clean and in wearable condition to swap with other students on campus.

Building Healthy Support Networks and Relationships Series

We are living in a time when many people are experiencing social anxiety; this is normal, and we are here to provide you with practical tips on how to reach out to others and then foster nurturing relationships. Join our Mental Health & Wellness Services therapists virtually in a supportive space to explore building and navigating healthy intimate/romantic relationships as well as tips for building supportive social and career/academic networks.
