Know Your Rights & Immigration Policy Updates Webinar

CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights) will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday, February 19, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, “Know Your Rights & Immigration Policy Updates.” This webinar will provide attendees with up-to-date information and will empower participants with the knowledge needed to understand their legal rights and navigate current immigration policies effectively. During the webinar, expert speakers will provide valuable insights and practical knowledge. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions and engage in discussions. Whether you're directly impacted or seeking to be an informed ally, this webinar will be highly informative and beneficial.

Space Utilization Study: Findings

Through surveys and focus groups last semester, students, faculty and staff had an opportunity to provide input on SCC’s Space Utilization Study conducted by Steelcase Inc.

Join us Thursday, February 20, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, on Zoom, to hear what the consultants learned about SCC.

The session will be recorded for those who are unable to attend.

SCC’s New Student Health and Wellness Center is Open!

We’re excited to announce the grand opening of Sacramento City College’s new dedicated Student Health and Wellness Center—a space designed to support students’ physical and mental well-being!

This expanded facility offers students:

✅ Physical Health Services – First aid, OTC medications, illness assessments, health consultations, Narcan and fentanyl strips, pregnancy testing, and sexual health education.

✅ Mental Health Support – Meet with professional counselors or connect with our Student Mental Health Advocate for guidance, coping strategies, and resources.

✅ Enhanced Facilities – 3 exam rooms, 3 counseling rooms, a vaccine support room, and a welcoming lobby.

Remind student's to prioritize their health by exploring the new Student Health and Wellness Center in SHW 101, near the Cosmetology building).

Support Student Success! Donate Professional Attire by March 10

Help empower SCC students for the upcoming Career Fairs season by donating gently used professional clothing to BUS153 by Monday, March 10.

Career Services is collecting clean professional attire, including blazers, slacks, dresses, and suits, in BUS 153, the new Career Services location. These donations will directly support our Dress for Success event, where students can receive professional attire, headshots, and career-related resources.

Hiring the Best & Equity Representative Training

Any LRCCD employee wishing to serve on a hiring or interview committee must first complete the Hiring the Best training course. Additionally, employees interested in serving as the equity representative on a hiring committee must complete the Equity Representative Training course. Sessions are available at various district or campus locations, including online.

The next online workshop will take place:

Tuesday, February 18, 1:00 to 4:00 pm

This training fulfills the requirements of the EEO Plan Component 8: Training for Screening/Selection Committees as mandated by Title 5 Regulations, section 5300 et. seq., and meets State Professional Development Guideline B for staff development, in-service training, and instructional improvement.

Free Dental Cleanings for LRCCD Employees & Students!

The Dental Clinic at Sacramento City College is offering ONE free dental cleaning per year to all Los Rios Community College District employees and currently enrolled students!-- that means you!

Low-Cost Dental Services for the Public

For community members, our services remain highly affordable—just $25 for the first appointment and $10 for each additional visit. Seniors 65 and older receive free cleanings. Appointments typically last around three hours, and multiple visits may be needed to complete your cleaning so make sure to plan ahead.

Helpful Workshops for Refugee Students

Los Rios Refugee Career Pathways program is offering the following workshops for refugee students at the Ethan Way Center (1410 Ethan Way in Sacramento). When participants arrive, they should call (916) 563-3255 to be let into the building.

Refugee Career Pathways Program Orientation

Tuesday, February 18, 1:00 to 2:00 pm

During this session, students will receive valuable information on eligibility criteria, client expectations, available services, and support for education and career pathways. Participants should bring their immigration documents for verification of eligibility (for example, their I-94, green card, and work authorization). We will not make copies or save documents for our records.

Professional Interviewing Skills Workshop

Saturday, February 22, 10:00 to 11:00 am

This workshop aims to equip refugees with the essential skills and knowledge to excel in job interviews and cover key interview skills, including practice with common questions and effective communication techniques. Attendees will also explore cultural insights and local norms to help them navigate employer expectations.

Financial Aid Informational Workshop

Saturday, February 22, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

This workshop will provide refugee students with an overview of financial aid options like scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs, as well as tips for completing financial aid applications and meeting eligibility requirements.

Petition to Graduate Virtual Workshop

Encourage students to join our virtual workshop Wednesday, February 19 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm for a step-by-step guide on submitting their Petition to Graduate forms. This online workshop will provide essential information to help students successfully complete their graduation petition before the March 7 deadline.

FRESH START Workshop for Students

Help students get back on track with the Fresh Start Workshop, where Fresh Start Specialists provide guidance on improving GPAs, getting off probation, and accessing essential resources like financial aid, DSPS services, and transfer support, etc.

This year, the Counseling Office is offering both in-person appointments and virtual Zoom meetings to better support students.
