SCC Closed June 19 for Juneteenth Holiday

All SCC offices will be closed and no classes will be held on Monday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a U.S. public holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865.

New On-Campus Dining Service Partner Starts This Fall

Following Los Rios’ detailed planning and procurement process that gathered feedback from all colleges and constituency groups, we are excited to announce that Pacific Dining has been selected as our new on-campus food service partner. The Pacific Dining team has begun preparations to start operations to provide limited food service at American River, Folsom Lake, and Sacramento City Colleges for the Fall 2023 semester. Due to an ongoing kitchen renovation project at Cosumnes River College, the dining program will not begin operations immediately, but CRC’s administration and Pacific Dining are exploring ways to deliver limited food services with more information to be provided in the fall.

Survey Says… Students are 70.7% VERY satisfied!

The results from the first year of Caring Campus Student Surveys are available. It is wild to think of how long we have been actively engaging in Caring Campus efforts. The summer of 2020, our then college president brought the Caring Campus initiative to the college to develop action-based behavioral commitments to improve our student experience and success.

Since then, now more than 2 ½ years later with continued endorsement from our President, we are steadily working to embed these efforts into our culture. Over the past year the college Classified Professionals have been partnering with the Caring Campus Long-term Planning Committee to survey students in an effort for the committee to gauge the ongoing energies to support our students through the Caring Campus Behavioral Commitments. 

The 2022-2023 results are published on our new webpage.

Intended Use

The survey's intended use is to help the

Caring Campus Long-term Planning Committee: 

• Gauge how we proceed with our Implementation Plans
• Evaluate the committee's work
• Evaluate the institutionalization of our behavioral commitments

The survey will not be used for evaluative purposes of the service areas conducting the survey. In addition, we will not be sharing specific department/division results.

The CCLTLP Student Survey

The CCLTPC is requesting the SCC Classified Professionals use or continue your assistance in conducting student surveys to monitor how the college is doing at institutionalizing our behavioral commitments. Part of the Caring Campus initiative includes our Implementation, Communication, and Monitoring Plans, and this survey is part of the monitoring plan for the college.

• Print QR Code and place at student-facing counters

How will the survey be used?

• Survey results will be reviewed by the committee to gauge how we proceed in our Implementation Plans 
• Survey results will be used to evaluate the CCLTPC’s work and institutionalization of our behavioral commitments 

How will the survey NOT be used?

• The survey results will not be used for evaluative purposes
• Specific department/ division survey results will not be shared with supervisors, managers, or deans

Dr. Michael Grofe, Anthropology Department Chair, will be speaking at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento on Tuesday, June 20, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 2093 Arena Blvd.

His presentation is called, "A Tree Regains its Roots: Revitalization of the Maya Hieroglyphic Script."

Summer Tutoring is Available

SCC offers both in-person and online tutoring in the summer! This service is free to students and can help with subjects across the curriculum.

Encourage students to connect with a tutor now to receive support the entire summer session! 

Stay Healthy During Hot Weather

Take some simple steps to beat the heat this summer and keep yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your pets healthy! Remember to drink plenty of water; wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing; and avoid outside activities during the hottest part of the day, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cooling down a few hours a day will allow your body to recover and tolerate the heat better for the rest of the day.
