Most In-Person Classes, Services Moved Online Until Jan. 31
You should have received an email Monday announcing that, in response to skyrocketing case numbers throughout our region, we have decided to temporarily move most in-person classes, labs, and services online from the start of the semester until Monday, Jan. 31 for all Los Rios colleges (American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, and Sacramento City). Impossible to convert Career Education programs that were held in-person during the last year will continue to be held in-person. Other classes such as traditional lecture classes, science labs, arts, and ESL classes will move online for this two-week period. Look for communication from your instructor in your email or Canvas account for the status of your class and reach out to your instructor with any class-related questions.

Our Reopening webpage has been updated with specific information about which programs and services will remain in person, and will continue to be updated in the days and weeks ahead with any changes to this information.
Mask Guidance
Consistent with evolving recommendations from the public health community, we strongly recommend that all students and employees who are on campus use surgical masks or higher-level respirator N95 or KN95 masks, as opposed to cloth masks or any other face covering providing less protection (read the California Department of Public Health’s latest guidance on masks and face coverings). Masks will be available in classrooms or students may pick one up at the Operations office, located by the softball field (see campus map).
Textbook Orders: Update from Bookstore
This is an update on online orders from the bookstore. You will have the option to pick up your orders at any of the Los Rios Bookstore locations during business hours or have them shipped to your home (no PO boxes allowed); please check the bookstore website for current hours. You will receive an “order placed” confirmation and a “ready for pick up” confirmation for each item, if you chose in-store pick up. For shipped orders, merchandise may be shipped separately. You will receive confirmation emails with the tracking info included for each shipment.

Last week we reported that free shipping is available - that is not correct. We apologize for the error. Please visit the bookstore’s shipping and delivery webpage for full information on your options.

As a reminder, Monday, Jan. 24 is the deadline to return textbooks or class materials to the bookstore and receive a refund (as long as the product is in its original condition). For more information, see the return policy webpage.
Scholarship Season is Open
Scholarship season opens today, Friday, Jan. 14, and runs through Friday, March 4. The Los Rios Colleges Foundation awards nearly $500,000 in scholarships to students each year.

To be eligible for a scholarship, students must:

Help, I’m on the Waitlist!
The waitlist status of a class changes throughout the enrollment period, so you should regularly monitor your waitlist status. After the semester starts on Saturday, Jan. 15, a permission number is required to be added to a class from the waitlist. If your professor gives you a permission number to add the class, follow these Use Permission Number/Enroll from Waitlist instructions.

Permission numbers are only given to you directly from your professor. If you have questions about whether you will be receiving a permission number, contact your professor to ask how they will be managing their waitlist this semester.

Not sure you will be added from the waitlist, but still need another class this semester to stay on track? Check the list of open classes to see if there is another section of the class you are waitlisted in or if there is another class you want to take.
MLK Day Holiday is Jan. 17
Reminder: Sacramento City College will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. No classes will be held and all remote college offices will be closed. View Academic Calendar.
Human Trafficking Prevention Month
January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States. It can happen in any community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. Traffickers might use violence, manipulation, or false promises of well-paying jobs or romantic relationships to lure victims into trafficking situations. This month, take the time to educate yourself about human trafficking and to learn to spot the signs of trafficking.
Parking Reminder
Los Rios will not be selling semester or daily parking permits for Spring 2022. This means you will not be ticketed for a lack of a permit during this semester. However, be sure to follow all other parking rules, such as only parking in handicapped spots if you have the appropriately issued placard and no parking in fire or loading zones, as violations of these could result in a ticket.
