Citywide Earth Day Parks Clean-Up Tomorrow

Tomorrow, April 18, the Chicago Park District will host a citywide Earth Day Parks Clean-Up. The Park District invites residents from across Chicago to join thousands of their neighbors in caring for their local parks. This event serves as an opportunity for residents to support the green spaces that serve our communities. If you are interested in volunteering at the event this Saturday, please register here


Volunteers may assist with leaf raking, litter pick-up, tree mulching, or general park beautification. Volunteers of all ages are welcome!

State Street Closed for State / Lake

CTA Station Reconstruction

As part of the ongoing State / Lake CTA Station Reconstruction project, a full closure was implemented on State Street, from Wacker Drive to Randolph Street, on Monday, April 13. During this closure, emergency sewer repair work will also be completed on State Street. State Street is scheduled to remain closed until May 22, 2026.


During the closure, northbound vehicles will be rerouted to Randolph Street, Dearborn Street, and Kinzie Street to re-access State Street. Southbound vehicles will be rerouted to Kinzie Street, Clark Street, and Washington Street to re-access State Street. Local business and driveway access on State Street will be maintained during the closures, and at least one sidewalk will be open at all times for pedestrians. The underground CTA Red Line station at Lake will remain open.

Alderman Reilly Authorizes Menu Funds for Street and Alley Resurfacing in the 42nd Ward

As reported last week, Alderman Reilly has authorized a portion of his Aldermanic Menu Funds to resurface several streets and alleys in the 42nd Ward. In the coming weeks, CDOT will begin grinding and repaving the following streets and alleys:


  • Alley bounded by Delaware Place, Chestnut Street, Dearborn Street, and State Street
  • Park Drive, from Illinois Street to North Water Street
  • Lower Michigan Avenue, from Grand Avenue to Lower North Water Street
  • Harbor Drive, from Harbor Service Drive to Randolph Street


Additionally, Alderman Reilly has authorized Menu Funds for many resurfacing projects that do not yet have permits but will begin soon. Resurfacing projects can take several weeks. Please see the list below of projects with their projected start date:


  • Alley bounded by Franklin Street, Wells Street, Ontario Street, and Ohio Street (Projected Start Date: April 22)
  • Alley bounded by Erie Street, Ontario Street, Franklin Street, and Wells Street (April 22)
  • Alley bounded by Superior Street, Huron Street, Franklin Street, and Wells Street April 22)
  • Alley bounded by Chicago Avenue, Superior Street, Orleans Street, Franklin Street (April 22)
  • Lower Michigan Avenue, from Lower Wacker Drive and Lower Stetson Avenue (April 27)
  • South Water Street, from Stetson Avenue to Columbus Drive (April 27)
  • Stetson Avenue, from Wacker Drive to Randolph Street (April 29)
  • Randolph Street, from Beaubien Court to Columbus Drive (April 29)
  • Randolph Street, from Field Boulevard to Harbor Drive (April 29)

Vital Farms Food Truck at Pioneer Court: April 24

On Friday, April 24 from 11am - 6pm, a food truck for Vital Farms will be at Pioneer Court (401 N Michigan Ave) to encourage Chicagoans to learn more about their work and to thank local farmers. The truck will distribute menu items that showcase the brand's egg and butter products. The event footprint will include a branded food truck and a stylized barn-like display with a table to write thank-you cards to farmers. The display will not have projected music or excessive noise.

42nd Ward Traffic Closures & Construction Projects

Crane Lift:

22 E Chicago

On Saturday, April 18, a crane lift will take place at 22 E Chicago Ave between 8am and 2pm. While the crane is in place, the sidewalk on the north side of Chicago Ave, between State St and Wabash Ave, will be closed to pedestrians. Additionally, westbound traffic on Chicago Ave between these same streets will be reduced to one lane. Eastbound vehicular traffic will be unaffected. Flaggers will be in place on Chicago Ave at State St and Wabash Ave. If weather does not allow the lift to occur on 4/18, it will be rescheduled for Sunday, April 19.


157 W Grand

On Saturday, April 18, a crane lift will take place at 157 W Grand Ave. The lift will take place between 8am and 3pm on 4/18. During the lift, the sidewalk on the south side of Grand Ave in front of 157 W Grand will be closed to pedestrians. One-way westbound traffic on Grand Ave, between Wells St and LaSalle Dr, will remain open. Flaggers will be in place on the south sidewalk of Grand Ave to redirect oncoming pedestrians.


65 E Wacker

On Saturday, April 25, a crane lift will take place at 65 E Wacker Dr. During the lift, the following streets will be closed from 9-11am on 4/25:


  • Wacker Pl, between Michigan Ave and State St
  • Wabash Ave, between Lake St and Grand Ave
  • Corner of Garland Ct and Lake St


Police barricades will be set up on Wacker Dr at State St, Wacker Pl and Wacker Dr at Michigan Ave, Wabash Ave at Lake St, Wabash Ave at Grand Ave, and on Garland Ct at Lake St. All closures and barricades are scheduled to be lifted by 11am on 4/25.


State / Lake CTA Station Reconstruction

As stated above, State St, between Wacker Dr and Randolph St, is fully closed. Lake St, between State St and Wabash Ave, remains closed. Eastbound traffic on Lake St will be directed to Dearborn St, Wacker Dr, and Wabash Ave to reach eastbound Lake St (latest detour map here--please note that northbound State Street is also fully closed). Lake St, from Dearborn St to State St, will be closed from 7am - 3pm. For more information on the ongoing project, click here. As a result of the closure on State St, the following CTA bus stops will be eliminated at State & Lake until Friday, May 22:


#2 - Hyde Park Express, #6 – Jackson Park Express, #10 – Museum Science & Industry, #29 – State, #36 – Broadway, #62 – Archer, #146 – Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express, #148 – Clarendon/Michigan Express.


Utility Work:

LaSalle Drive - Peoples Gas

Utility work has begun on LaSalle Dr near Chicago Ave. As a result of the line repair work, one vehicular traffic lane and one sidewalk will be closed at a time. A full closure at LaSalle Dr & Chicago Ave will not be implemented, and traffic will continue to flow as normal. Peoples Gas will be on site until the second week of May 2026.


Grand Avenue - Bally's Casino

To prepare for the new permanent Bally's Casino, utility work will be completed on Grand Ave in River North. As a result of this construction, Grand Ave, between Union Ave and Kingsbury St, will be reduced to one lane in each direction. These closures will be in place until May 2026.


Canal St Reconstruction

The closures remain on the east half of Canal St, between Adams and Madison, and parking on Canal, between Adams and Madison, will be prohibited. Two lanes on the west side of Canal St will be maintained for northbound traffic. These closures will last until late 2026. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the west side of Canal St, and access to driveways and commercial loading zones will be maintained.


Lake Street Bascule Bridge Construction Update

Work continues on the Lake Street Bascule Bridge. The sidewalk on the southwest corner of the bridge will remain closed until summer 2026.The Lake Street Bascule Bridge is expected to re-open by spring 2028. For the detour map, click here.


Bridge Construction Updates

As reported in a past Reilly Report, construction continues on several downtown bridges, and Alderman Reilly has expressed his frustration with CDOT for a lack of coordination and planning. The State Street Bridge is now open, and the approximate completion date for the Chicago Avenue Bridge is January 2027, and the Lake Street Bridge will be completed by spring 2028.
