Civic Action, Halloween, Watermarks and More

I hope this email finds you well after a weekend that may have included Halloween celebrations or, for the first time in New York, early voting .  If seeing such and civic action left you with a fear of missing out ( FOMO ) rest assured, if you continue reading, you’ll learn how to get in on it.

Speaking of civic activity, tonight at 6:00 pm, our Permits and Licenses Committee meets to review five liquor license applications.   Whatever the committee, chaired by Rachel Freeman, decides those applications will then be put up for our final vote during the Wed, Nov 13th board meeting .

Tomorrow, Tues, Oct 29 th , the   7 th  Annual Barnacle Parade ,  remembering Superstorm Sandy, will march down   Van Brunt Street . If you plan on being part of it, get   there early   (3:15 pm) and check out  Portside’s   unveiling of Sandy’s  high watermark . Tomorrow is also CHIPS night out , which means that, if you eat or drink at one of the participating establishments, 15 percent of your check will be donated to CHIPS. If you’re not familiar with this organization,  CHIPS has been providing food and shelter to those in need for almost 50 years. Services such as this are especially important when one opens up a newspaper and reads that 1 out of every 10 school children in our city is without a home .

Later in the week, on Thurs Oct 31st, Halloween, the  Park Slope Civic Council hosts its annual parade  from 7th Avenue and 14th Street down to the Old Stone House . While the  Brooklyn Conservatory of Music  becomes the  Con-spook-atory , Cobble Hill will also have a parade  while in Carroll Gardens, Scotto’s, led by our very own John Heyer, will keep a Halloween tradition alive .

If you plan on using the subway, which just turned 115 , tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29 th , click here for planned for service changes . As for bus service changes, click here . If you want to let the MTA know what you think of the buses, take this survey and mark your calendar for their Tues, Nov 12th “Open House” at the Park Slope Library . Also, just like today, alternate side parking  (ASP) regulations will be in effect tomorrow, Tues, Oct 29 th .

Well, throughout the entire week, even as I type this, you can vote early and ease any feeling of democratic FOMO. To help with that, here’s a “ who ,  what , and  where “ for this year's election.
