Art Unveiling, Concerts, Shopping, Skate Jam & More
San Francisco's Arts Commission and Public Library hosted the unveiling of "A Phenomenal Woman," by artist Lava Thomas in recognition of Dr. Maya Angelou, with a community celebration on September 19. See the new piece on the Larkin Street steps of the Main Branch.
Another Planet Entertainment and the Recreation and Parks Department brought another free concert to Civic Center Plaza, this time popular Portugal. The Man with Snacktime. Thousands of concert goers bopped and swayed to the music against a backdrop of an illuminated City Hall.
Following this, Fulton Plaza hosted another great Vintage Market Saturday; happening once a month during summer and fall, 30+ vendors sell clothing, furniture, art and more. Meanwhile, across the street at UN Plaza, the Lowkey SkateJam brought out skaters from near and far for a competition that saw some jumping over an old car while maneuvering through the skate elements. While the next weekend saw a different competition: All the Way Live's Hip Hop Festival and dance battle.
Also in September, Rec & Park's Shred N' Butter skateboard classes began in UN Plaza, along with the popular Chess & Mahjong Lessons, and Fulton Plaza was alive with Civic Center Soundtrack, Heart of the City Farmers Market and Hip Hop on the Plaza. What a quarter for Civic Center events!
