2017-18 Year In Review
As we approach the end of the 2017-2018 school year, let's take a moment to reflect on the progress and accomplishments of the district.
  • We kept our focus on supporting the growth and success of each child as we adapted to changes in leadership, staff, and instruction.

  • We developed a strategic plan through a transparent and collaborative process that reflects feedback from all stakeholders. This plan will guide the work of the district as we work to meet the district vision: “Clarinda Community School District is a leader in education by fostering high standards and expectations through rigorous academics, meaningful learning opportunities, and engaging student activities.”

  • We implemented Phase I of technology integration at the middle school by providing each student with a learning device. It has been a successful transition as students, teachers, and staff learned, adapted, and thrived in the new learning environment.

  • We focused on developing partnerships and engaging parents and community members in our work by providing you with opportunities to participate in school activities and events. These partnership create the bond and foundation that supports the education of all students.

  • We kept our commitment to provide a safe and secure learning environment. The school board approved the installation of safety and security systems that will increase the safety and security of our students, staff, guests, schools, and buses.

  • We provided our students with opportunities to develop a culture that supports high expectations and builds school pride.

  • Our students proudly represented our school and community as they excelled in academics, arts, and athletics!

  • Our staff continues to go above and beyond to support our students and creating opportunities for them to be successful.

  • We are leveling the playing field for our students by transitioning to semesters and aligning our grading scale to common practice.

It has been a year with many changes filled with success. This is only possible because of the collaborative support from our students, staff, parents, and community members. Thank you for making our school the pride of our community! We look forward to the continued support and partnerships.

School Satisfaction Survey
Dear Clarinda School District Stakeholders,

The Clarinda Community School District invites you to participate in a survey about our schools. Your feedback will assist the district in making decisions for continuous improvement and allow us to understand how our constituents feel about our schools.

While completing the survey, focus your thoughts and perceptions based on your experience with the school, as well as your perceptions of a child's experience as a student.

Your responses should take approximately 10 minutes to complete and are completely anonymous. The survey closes on Thursday, May 31st .

Thank you for your participation!

Yours in Education,
Deron Stender, Superintendent
Last Day of School is Wednesday, May 23rd

The last day of school is Wednesday, May 23rd . Please note, there is a two hour early dismissal on May 23rd.
Free Lunch for Kids During Summer
Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like the Clarinda Community School District, to provide free meals to anyone who is 18 or younger when school is out for the summer.

The district will provide free meals to children during the summer at the Clarinda Middle School Cafeteria beginning June 1st.

Meals are available Monday-Friday from 11:30-12:30.

If you would like to volunteer or donate to the Summer Meal Program or have any questions, please contact the Food Service Director at 712-542-5167.
Summer Reading
Our students have been busy reading lots of books. This year, more than 47,000 books were circulated at our schools.

Many studies show children who read during the summer improve their reading ability and those who don’t tend to lose literacy skills. This year, we are collaborating with the Lied Public Library to promote their summer reading programs. Lied Public Library Youth Services Librarian, Marissa Gruber, will be visiting our schools on Friday, May 11th, to share information with students about these exciting summer programs.

If you have any questions, please contact:

Wednesday, May 9th.

School Board Appreciation
Clarinda Community School District will join public education systems throughout the state to salute local school board members and celebrate public education during Iowa’s annual School Board Recognition Month in May.

The commemorative month is designed to recognize the contributions made by Iowa’s nearly 1,900 local school boards, community college and AEA board members, including the members of the Clarinda Board of Education, who are charged with governing public education under state law.

Clarinda school board members are chosen by their communities through elections to manage our local schools. They oversee an annual budget of $18 million, 962 students, 140 employees and 3 buildings.

These volunteer leaders are also responsible for formulating school policy, approving curricula, maintaining school facilities and adhering to state and federal education law. Legal concerns and the complexities of school finance, including budgeting and taxation, require them to spend many hours in board training programs and personal study to enhance their understanding of these issues.

Please join us by saying “thanks” to our school board members during the Iowa School Board Association’s School Board Member Recognition Month in May. Thank you Darin Sunderman, Greg Jones, Nola Bond, Stacy Pulliam, and Ann Meyer for your dedication and commitment to our students, staff, and community.
