Facilities Review and Planning
In alignment with the district strategic plan, the school board is committed to meeting long term financial and facility goals through the development of a comprehensive review of district facilities, a collaborative process, and engagement of all stakeholders.

The school board has contracted with Estes Construction to facilitate the process. Estes Construction is affiliated with the Iowa Construction Advocate Team (ICAT) and the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB).

Due to increased enrollment, enhanced learning environments, school safety, and equipment/facilities that have reached their functional capacity, the district is being proactive in reviewing and considering it's options. Through a comprehensive facility review process, district stakeholders and the school board will identify facility needs and priorities.

Conducting a facilities review takes time and involves communication and feedback from stakeholders including community members, district staff, and the school board. A small group of stakeholders have met with Estes to review the data and areas of interest and concern. The next step in the review process will bring the stakeholders and school board together for further review and discussion. As the process continues, there will be opportunities for the entire community to be involved in the review and decision making process. If you have any questions, please contact Superintendent Deron Stender at dstender@clarindacsd.org or 712-542-5165.
Parent Teacher Conferences
October 30th & November 1st
4:00-7:30 p.m.

We welcome and encourage our parents to attend parent teacher conferences on Tuesday, October 30th and Thursday, November 1st from 4:00-7:30 p.m. All conferences will be held at the elementary and middle school buildings (high school conferences will be held in the middle school gymnasium).
NWEA Map Testing
At the beginning of the school year, students took NWEA MAP tests to measure academic growth and their instructional level in literacy, math, and science.

MAP assessments are a research-based assessment that supports students and educators by measuring growth and proficiency. NWEA is used in 145 countries and more than half the schools in the United States. They are unique in that they adapt to each students level of learning.

Since MAP tests provide immediate and accurate information about each students learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. This assessment will provide guidance to make changes in curriculum and instruction to support each students learning needs. Students will be assessed three times during the year (fall, winter, spring) to benchmark and monitor progress.

During parent teacher conferences, parents will receive a report showing your child’s growth, which you can review with your child’s teacher for more insight.

For additional information about these assessments, click here , or contact your child's school.
Technology in Instruction & Learning
Staff continues to integrate technology in instruction and student learning. Nearly all of our staff members have completed Apple Teacher Certification! To achieve Apple Teacher Certification, our staff used a range of world class resources to build skills that directly apply to technology integration that improves instruction and engages students in their learning. Schoology provides students and parents with access to monitor assignments, tests, and academic performance. Every Wednesday, a technology integrationist from the Green Hills AEA is on site to work with and support students and staff.

The following staff are ready to support you and answer any questions you may have:

Mrs. Sonia Morrison: Technology Director, smorrison@clarindacsd.org
Mrs. Connie Sunderman: Technology Associate, csunderman@clarindacsd.org
Mrs. Kathy Wagoner: Network Specialist, kwagoner@clarindacsd.org
Mrs. Julie Cabeen: Technology Integrationist/Schoology, jcabeen@clarindacsd.org
How Does Technology Impact You?
To help the district understand how technology impacts our partners, please complete this brief Technology Survey . The information is confidential and is used to help understand the environmental needs, skills, access, and classroom factors that impact technology utilization by our students and families.

This data will help the district make informed decisions to support the technology needs of our students, families, and staff. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Julie Cabeen, jcabeen@clarindacsd.org.

Thank you for your support and cooperation!

Clarinda Community School District supports National School Bus Safety Week and recognizes and thanks all of our drivers for their commitment to safely transporting our students!
Please help our drivers keep our students safe by following these rules:

  • When the bus’s yellow flashers turn on, that signifies that is is preparing to have children get on or off the bus. All vehicles behind the bus must come to a complete stop.
  • If you are approaching a bus from the opposite direction slow our speed to 20 mph when the bus turns on its yellow flashers.
  • On a two-lane road, traffic in both directions must come to a full stop when the lights are flashing red.
  • On a four-lane road, traffic moving in the opposite direction must slow down and proceed with caution when either red or yellow flashers are present.
  • Stop your vehicle at least 15 feet from the bus.
  • Remain stopped until the flashing lights are turned off and the stop arm is pulled back in.

If you would like to join our transportation team, please contact Mrs. Nancy McKinnon at 712-542-5165 or nmckinnon@clarindacsd.org. Thank you for your attention to the safety of our students and bus drivers.
