Class 42 Forestry Seminar
Class 42 has completed its Forestry Seminar like no other class - virtually! All over the state, class members signed onto daily Zoom sessions, some joining from the field, the forest, or even their work trucks.

Despite the disappointment of not being able to gather in Shelton, the class was able to hear from a fantastic line up of speakers, who shared stories and perspective on forest history, public perceptions, land management and collaboration.
Class 42's Forestry Seminar had fewer skidders and more screens.
Program Director Hannah Poush found a way for the class to spend s’more time together in a virtual ‘fireside chat’ with Court Stanley!
Thank you to Green Diamond Resource Company for sponsoring this seminar, and to Patti Case (Class 18) and John Ison (Class 32) for coordinating!
We could not have done it without you. We are looking forward to touring Green Diamond when we are able to convene the class again.
Class reflections on the seminar:
"There were several great examples of groups with different opinions coming together for a common goal. To be an effective leader, you have to know how to listen and collaborate with others."

"Before this seminar, I knew that the forest products industry has, and continues to successfully navigate topics of social tension. What I didn't realize was how that could serve as good examples for other industries that are struggling with similar issues. The forest products industry has, at least in part, written the play-book for coming to meaningful compromise in a number of communities in the west."

"What we do today matters tomorrow."

"When working to influence change, consensus building is important and it starts with finding common ground. Before you launch into your ideas, work to understand what is important to others."

"Leadership can be as simple as helping others gain knowledge and understanding in what comes second nature to you."

"I'll continue to think about the dynamic tension between environmental activists and advocates and the industry. I'll work to build partnership and coalition with the goal of collaboration rather than opposition."
