Dear Osprey Students and Families,
To close out the 2019-20 school year, all 9th through 11th grade students will complete Transitional Presentations of Learnings (TPOLs) on May 26 through 28.
With home-based learning continuing through the end of the school year, we have redesigned TPOLs so that they can be completed remotely. While it's disappointing to give up on our traditional in-person culmination for the year, our hope is that students will still find the TPOL process to serve as a valuable opportunity to practice presentation skills while engaging in authentic reflection on learning and growth.
As with POLs in December,
TPOLs will be individually scheduled
during this window of time; core teachers will work with students to create this schedule next week. There is no school on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 and no TPOLs will be scheduled for that date.
Students are required to pass TPOLs to move on to the 11th grade year, so it is really important that they are engaged and participating during TPOL Prep and TPOLs.
If they have fallen behind, now is the time for them to jump back in! It is not unusual to be asked to refine and redo a TPOL and students need to be prepared to return another day if they do not pass the first time. Professional dress is required for TPOLs, and this will be true for videoconferences as applicable.
For the 10th grade TPOLs, our goals are to bring students back (virtually) to reconnect with their school community in an online discussion, and to reflect in small groups about the virtues and downfalls of youth today. We will apply those reflections looking forward to their junior year, so that they can collectively maximize their virtues while minimizing their vices!
This TPOL will require students to access an online seminar for their TPOL Seminar. They can either do this on a computer or using a phone.
If this will be an issue, students will need to reach out to their Seminar Group Leader to troubleshoot and find solutions. They can find who their group leader is in the TPOL Overview linked below.
Key documents for TPOL information and preparation are linked here:
- TPOL Overview- In this document, you will find a description of TPOLs, the rubric, the seminar schedule (including seminar group leaders) and guiding questions we may ask.
- TPOL Preparation- This document contains all the preparation that students need to complete the week of TPOL prep (May 18 through 22). Students should make a copy of this document, and share it with their seminar group leader. All prep work should be on this shared document. Please note that the first assignment is due on Monday, 5/18 by 9:00 am!!!

with any questions or concerns. The whole 10th grade team misses our students enormously, and wish we could be there to close out the year in person with them. We are here to help, so contact us with any questions!
Thank you for your ongoing support as we adjust our practices in this unique time!
