Dear Class of 2028 Families,

The following email was sent to all Class of 2028 students in regard to the Mercy service experience and requirement.

Congratulations on the completion of your 9th grade year at Mercy! This email provides information for the 10th grade Faith in Action service requirement in case you would like to volunteer over the summer. The video here explains the 10th grade program.

• 10th Grade: 4 hours of service to Mercy High School. One service experience (8-10 hours) in a different area than chosen in 9th grade. The service experience requirement must be at a single non-profit, non-Mercy agency, focusing on a different Critical Concern.

The list here is a wonderful resource for various agencies in the Metro Detroit area. If you choose to volunteer over the summer, log the hours in Mobile Serve.

When we return in August, the 10th Grade Faith in Action course will be available for you to complete and upload your brief service reflection. Should you wish to write your reflection over the summer and upload it when we return to school, please use the guideline below.

Please take a moment to reflect on the non-profit you worked with for your out-of-school service experience. Keep in mind the Sisters of Mercy Critical Concerns: Immigration, Racism, Earth, Women and Children, Non-Violence. These Critical Concerns (areas of focus for the Sisters of Mercy and their sponsored ministries) are rooted in the Gospel and the Works of Mercy.

Write a brief reflection (double spaced, 12pt font) focusing on the following questions:

• Where did you serve?
• What population does your service location serve?
• What Critical Concern did your service align with?
• How did you see your chosen Critical Concern at your service location?
• What did you learn about yourself or what memory stands out from your service experience?
• As you think about your service experience next year, what Critical Concern would you like to explore, and why?
