CLASSICS EAGLES COACH SPOTLIGHT

COACH: JEREMY GENTRY
CE TEAM: CE PUMAS U11 GIRLS
Coach Jeremy is the head coach of the Classics Eagles Pumas. This is his second full season with the team, along with his assistant coach Tony Galluch. Watching his team play, you can see the growth in the players and their level of play. In how they move the ball around the field, have confidence in each other, and compete as a team, it is clear the amount of time and effort, Jeremy, along with Tony, put in with the girls in helping them enjoy their youth soccer experience. Here are some comments from a parent who has seen Coach Jeremy with his team:
"Jeremy puts the time in to prepare himself and his team to be successful on the pitch. He provides the girls with sound instruction on positioning and movement to help them identify spots to attack to be successful. He provides a good balance of instruction and freedom for the player to make decisions based on what they have worked on in training. Most importantly Jeremy makes sure the team has fun and provides the team with fellowship opportunities to truly become a close knit group. He is a great coach and CE is lucky to have him!"

It is the most under appreciated aspect of the game. Although critical to a team’s success, it is what gets the least amount of attention from spectators, coaches, and the players. When watching a game, we tend to follow the ball. That is where the action is so that is the most logical place to look, but what is happening away from the ball can be just as important. Often what is happening away from the ball is about to be the reason for what happens next in the game. Whether a goal is scored or conceded, or possession is won or lost, the reason for it usually happened away from the ball. With this in mind, it is important we coach and praise the importance of the tremendous amount of running many players do during the game but normally do not get much credit. Read more!

SPRING IS IN THE AIR SKILLS CHALLENGES
THROUGH THE SEASON, WE WILL BE SHARING SKILL CHALLENGES TO HELP PLAYERS IMPROVE THEIR ABILITY TO RECEIVE AND HANDLE A BALL OUT OF THE AIR. MANY PLAYERS ARE NOT AS CONFIDENT PASSING AND RECEIVING WITH THE BALL IN THE AIR COMPARED TO THEIR ABILITY WITH THE BALL ON THE GROUND. IT TAKES TIME AND REPETITION TO IMPROVE A PLAYER'S CONTROL AND FIRST TOUCH IN THESE SITUATIONS. #CEWAY

HOW DIVERSIFYING TRAINING TECHNIQUES CAN PREVENT INJURIES
|
|
Performing the same types of movements all week can lead to the body getting overworked and ultimately increase the likelihood of sustaining repetitive stress injuries such as tendonitis, stress fractures, and plantar fasciitis, among others.
Cross-training aims to insert variety into your fitness routine. For example, if you are a soccer player, cross-training may include adding swimming, biking, or rowing. However, going for a run would not be an example in this situation because it mimics the same type of movement as playing soccer. Cross-training is also a great way to maintain cardiorespiratory endurance while using different muscles and stressing multiple body parts.
Here are a few examples of cross-training activities for different types of athletes:
- Soccer players: biking, using the elliptical machine, rowing
- Swimmers: running, jump roping, weight training
- Runners: swimming, HIIT workouts, dancing
Another form of training technically considered cross-training is resistance training (also known as weightlifting). Weightlifting, when performed safely, has many benefits for athletic development. Resistance training significantly strengthens bones, which prevents stress fractures and acute bony injuries. Combining weight training with regular stretching can prevent muscle injuries by strengthening the muscles, enabling them to withstand more force while remaining mobile. Resistance training increases muscle power output, which improves overall athletic performance.
In conclusion, incorporating cross-training and specifically weightlifting can make an athlete more well-rounded, enhance performance in their primary sport, and has injury prevention benefits.
