S&R of the Sun
In this month's newsletter I explain how to classify a dangerous good for transportation by air - subject to the Dangerous Goods Regulations of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) - when it has more than one hazard. If you offer for transport a dangerous good by air, you must make sure you get this right.

Also, I identify and explain two of the revisions to hazardous waste accumulation in the satellite accumulation area (SAA) made by the Generator Improvements Rule. Do you accumulate hazardous waste in a SAA? Has your state adopted the Generator Improvements Rule?

Classification of Dangerous Goods with Multiple Hazards

The Dangerous Goods Regulations of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) require the shipper to determine the primary and subsidiary hazards for a dangerous good with more than one hazard (e.g., Class 3 Flammable Liquid and Class 8 Corrosive Material). The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations specify a precedence of hazards for the shipper to use in making this determination. Read more here.
Special Requirements for Incompatible Wastes and Materials in Satellite Accumulation Area
Empty HazMat Packagings
The Generator Improvements Rule modified the requirements for management of incompatibles in the satellite accumulation area (SAA). Make certain your hazardous waste containers are in compliance.
Closed Containers in the Satellite Accumulation Area
Hazardous Waste Container
The Generator Improvements Rule created some limited exceptions from the closed container requirements for hazardous waste containers in the satellite accumulation area (SAA). These exceptions may make management of hazardous waste in a SAA easier for you.
