This hands-on, interactive science-based day camp will have real life examples and techniques used by crime scene investigators.

Youth will take a deep dive into specialized topics including forensic anthropology and human identification, witness and suspect interviewing techniques, cyber-crimes and trace analysis.

Camp attendees will have an opportunity to use these skills in real time when they examine mock crime scenes.

The camp has 20 slots and is open to 15-17 year-old youth on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cost is $50 and the deadline to register is Friday, June 30.

988 - What Will Happen If You Call

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers 24/7 call, text and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicidal, substance use, and/or mental health crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress.

People can also dial 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.

In Oregon, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help you or a loved one with any kind of mental health-related distress, thoughts of suicide or self-harm or substance use crisis.

Oregon has two 988 call centers that service calls from Oregon area codes. Northwest Human Services answers calls from area codes from Marion and Polk Counties, and Lines for Life services all other Oregon area codes. Non-Oregon area codes will be routed to a national 988 call center.

When you call 988, you will hear a pre-recorded message with several options to choose from. Press 1 to access the Veterans Crisis Line, for Spanish speakers press 2, la Red Nacional de Prevención del Suicidio, and for youth 25 and under who identify as LGBTQIA2S+, press 3 to receive specialized support.

For all other callers, simply stay on the line. Most calls will connect with a trained counselor within 20 seconds of the greeting.

The Oregon Health Authority has created a one-minute video to help explain how a 988 call works. You can also text 988 or chat online at 988Lifeline.org.

Frozen Strawberry Products Recall

Scenic Fruit Company of Gresham is recalling frozen "Organic Strawberries” sold at Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafood and PCC Community Markets, and frozen “Organic Tropical Fruit Blend” sold at Trader Joe’s, due to an outbreak of hepatitis A illnesses.

There have been five outbreak-associated cases of hepatitis A reported in Washington since March 13. The cases occurred between November 11 and December 27, 2022, with two individuals requiring hospitalization.

“Since these products were available in Oregon stores, we want to let people know about them so they can take steps to protect themselves and their families,” said Ann Thomas, M.D., M.P.H., a public health physician in OHA’s Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention Section.

“At this point, OHA is carefully investigating any new cases of hepatitis A virus to determine if they are associated with the outbreak, but we have not yet been able to link any Oregon cases to these products,” she said.
