Dear Claypit Hill Families,

Welcome back to school! It has been a joyous day at Claypit Hill as students and teachers connected with friends, old and new.  Throughout the building, everyone has been involved in activities designed to build relationships and to set a positive, safe learning environment for everyone. I heard multiple Claypit Hill educators exclaim, “I just love this day!” Although the heat was intense at times, it could not melt our enthusiasm.

There are multiple opportunities for families to get involved during this exciting week. On Thursday morning, PTO will host a New Family Coffee at 8:45am in the cafeteria, and the first PTO meeting of the year will follow. Remember, every parent is a member of the PTO, and your involvement is extremely important to us. Finally, on Friday night, pack a picnic dinner and join your Claypit Hill family on the back playground for our Back to School Bash from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.

Please don’t hesitate to be in touch if you need anything, or just stop by to say “hello”. It’s great to be back, and we look forward to welcoming our kindergarten students on Thursday!

Best regards,

All Claypit Families, new and old, are invited to join us at the New Family Coffee on 9/6/18 at 8:45 AM, followed by the first PTO (parent teacher organization) meeting of the 2018-19 school year from 9-10 AM. Dr. Harvey will share some opening remarks. If your child attends Claypit Hill School, you are automatically part of the PTO. Come learn the different ways you can proactively engage in our school community – there are many roles to accommodate different skill sets and schedules.

Curriculum night is fast approaching, and we need your help. Please look at the attached signups to see how you might be able to contribute. Thank you.

Claypit Hill has a terrific composting system for the cafeteria. Students separate their food into compost bins, trash into waste bins and liquids go down the drain. This cuts down on waste the school pays to have hauled away and allows students to learn how food from their lunches is turned into soil for the school’s vegetable garden. We would love to have volunteers in the cafeteria for the first two weeks of school, September 5-14, to remind students how to separate their trash. Six lunch periods run from 11:15-1:45. Sign-up to help with any of them on any day by contacting Rebecca Lloyd at . Here is the lunch schedule by grade. Feel free to come during your child’s lunch period or any convenient time slot. We welcome all volunteers, especially during Kindergarten & 1 st Grade sections.

Mark your calendars for our Back to School Bash that is happening THIS FRIDAY 9/7 from 5-7 PM outdoors at Claypit Hill School. Be on the lookout for a link to order tickets for ice cream online. We invite families to bring a picnic dinner and spread a blanket out on the lawn. We will have a DJ, a photo booth, and ice cream from Frosty’s ice cream truck. It’s a great time to catch up with old friends and make some new ones as we kick off the new school year!

If you're interested in becoming a library volunteer, please contact Lani Camacho at . She can provide further details regarding class schedules and training.

PTO wishes to thank Alissa Duffy & Dr. Christie Harvey for hosting the new family/kindergarten back to school popsicle playdate and get-to-know-the-school scavenger hunt.
Special thanks to Eliza Mosurick and Jennie Doody for catering the back to school teacher luncheon.
