WORLD FUTURE ENERGY SUMMIT 2018

We hope you enjoyed the World Future Energy Summit, which took place from 15 - 18 January 2018 in Abu Dhabi. The CEBC was present at the event, and a busy week saw us:
  • Visiting CEBC Members at the various expos;
  • Enjoying the wonderful opening ceremony showcasing the achievements of youth in sustainability;
  • Sharing our thoughts via media - watch an interview on Sky News Arabia (in Arabic) with Dr. Raed Bkayrat, our Managing Director, or an interview in English with GineersNow;
  • Watching the presentations by CEBC Members Ridah Sabouni of Energetics and Hugo Domingues of Energie GCC (you can download their presentations here);
  • Attending the Mobility Conference on 18 January 2018, the start of the Global EVRT Road Trip; and
  • Finding out about new and exciting developments in the renewables industry.

LAUNCH OF OUR WHITE PAPER - ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THE GCC, STATUS AND OUTLOOK
On 16 January 2018, Ridah Sabouni, Managing Director Middle East of Energetics, launched the CEBC Energy Efficiency Working Group White Paper ' Energy Efficiency in the GCC: Status and Outlook'. CEBC SCHOOLS RECYCING CONTEST
The CEBC Schools is currently running a fun recycling competition for students aged up to 12 years old. The CEBC Schools Programme is FREE for all schools in the UAE to join, however, schools need to get their entry form in by  the end of January 31st to be eligible! IFC FINANCES MASDAR'S 248MW SOLAR PROJECT IN JORDAN
The IFC has arranged a financing package of up to US$188 million for Jordan's largest PV plant, a 200MWac / 248MWdc project developed by Masdar Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company.  Masdar selected IFC to oversee the financing of the Baynouna facility  last year . The newly announced funding includes US$54 million from IFC and US$134 million mobilized from other senior lenders including a parallel loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). ENGIE, EDF AND ACWA POWER BID FOR 800MW SOLAR PROJECT IN MOROCCO
Morocco attracted bids from France's  Engie SA and  EDF Energies Nouvelles to build 800 megawatts of solar power as the North African country seeks to curb energy imports.  The French utilities, as well as Riyadh-based  ACWA Power , led groups bidding last month for engineering, procurement and construction contracts, Obaid Amrane, a member of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy's management board, said in an interview. NOW, YOU CAN RENT RENEWABLE ENERGY
Enerwhere, a solar utility  company based in Dubai, is the world's first provider of MW-scale transportable solar generator rental solutions for the construction, mining, logistics and manufacturing industries. With the introduction of solar net metering in Dubai, Enerwhere also offers fully-financed solar rooftop solutions under Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's Shams Dubai initiative.  The company is currently in the process of opening an office in Oman, and working on a number of mining projects in Africa. MASDAR COMPLETES MASSIVE OFF-GRID SOLAR POWER INSTALLATION IN MOROCCO
Masdar has s uccessfully completed the installation of an off-grid solar power project for 19,438 homes in more than 1,000 rural villages in Morocco.  The Morocco Solar Home Systems (SHS) project is a partnership between Masdar and Morocco's Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE). The initiative is contributing to Morocco's ambitious electrification efforts that have so far connected nearly all rural areas in the country with electricity. [Read More]



BEE'AH TO ADD 50 ALL-ELECTRIC TESLA SEMI TRUCKS TO ITS TRANSPORT FLEET
In line with its efforts to provider a better quality of life in the Middle East, Bee'ah, the region's fastest growing environmental management company, has underscored its vision for sustainability by purchasing the first and largest fleet of Tesla semi-trucks in the Middle East. The announcement was made in-line with Bee'ah's participation at the "World Future Energy Summit" in Abu Dhabi. [Read More]

ENGIE UNVEILS AIR PURIFYING ROBOT AT WFES
Engie, a worldwide energy leader, has launched Partnering Robotics' Diya One, an intelligent robot, which purifies air as it moves around inside the building during the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE.  Diya One was introduced for the first time in the Middle East region during a Tech Talk session, which took place at the Energy Efficiency Theatre on January 16.  [Read More]

MASDAR, EDF SA SIGN POWER SECTOR TIE UP
Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, has signed an agreement to collaborate with EDF SA, the parent company of the EDF Group, in the power sectors of countries in sub-Saharan Africa.  The partnership will explore development opportunities within the framework of both companies' existing off-grid investments in sub-Saharan Africa. It will also evaluate new projects and models for off-grid energy solutions in that region. [Read More]

STATE OF THE GREEN ECONOMY 2018
The UAE is taking steady strides towards achieving its goal of becoming the global hub for a green economy, according to the State of Green Economy Report 2018 launched on Thursday that details the UAE's success stories for others to replicate or scale up.
The State of Green Economy Report 2018, with the theme 'Youth and building the future', is a joint project of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as well as the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon).  It is an annual platform to review the efforts of various organisations in the UAE's transition to a green economy.   [Read More]
