NGV UP-TIME Project Update
Clean Fuels Ohio continues to lead and make progress on the NGV U.P.-T.I.M.E. Analysis project which aims to collect up-to-date fleet vehicle maintenance data and costs to compare the relative maintenance costs of natural gas (NGV) and diesel trucks used in freight and goods movement applications and document maintenance cost differences between current generation natural gas trucks, previous generation natural gas trucks, and current generation diesel trucks. The project relies on gathering maintenance cost data from national fleet partners using both natural gas and diesel trucks to create a cleaned, summarized, and anonymized database that will also be shared with the U.S. Department of Energy Vehicle Technologies Office (US DOE VTO).
AOAI Updates
Some exciting updates have occurred regarding the Accelerating Ohio’s Auto Industry (AOAI) bill, SB 307. On May 17th, the Bill had its 3rd hearing with the Energy and Public Utilities Committee. There were six interested parties that testified and no opponents. A recording of the full committee meeting can be watched here. All submitted testimony can be accessed here. The concerns centered around the utilities section of the bill, which we are addressing in one of several new amendments that will be combined into a sub bill that will be introduced when the legislature reconvenes in the fall.

The first new amendment broadens the definition of “electric vehicle” to be more comprehensive. The second moves to include hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles in the bill. The utilities section will be replaced with a legislative committee that will study the impact of EVs on Ohio’s economy and electrical grid submit a report of their findings with policy recommendations.

Last month, we hosted a successful ride and drive event at the statehouse. Now that the General Assembly is in recess, we plan to host similar events throughout the summer.
