Saratoga Chamber Organizes Malta Food Fest- November 6th

The Saratoga County Chamber is excited to host the Malta Food Fest, on Wednesday, November 6th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at HVCC's TEC-SMART facility.

All proceeds will support innovative programs in the Ballston Spa Central School District. We're now looking for sponsors and local restaurants to participate.  Please contact Liz Roggenbuck via email with any questions.

The Saratoga County Chamber created this event after the Malta BPA announced it had to cancel it's Taste of Malta event. That event had raised over $28,000 for this same purpose in prior years.

The co-title sponsors for the Malta Food Fest are the Malta BPA and the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County. We want to thank them for this support!
You can register for the event here.

Future Leaders in Planning Program (FLIP) Hosted at TEC-SMART

The Capital District Regional Planning Commission (CDRPC) and the Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (Clean Tech ECHS) partnered to provide students an innovative, hands-on pilot planning program this past August.

The Capital Region Future Leaders in Planning (FLIP) Program provided students the opportunity to learn about the issues that shape the Capital Region.  During the week students visited GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Pitney Farm, Tech Valley Center of Gravity, Brookfield Renewables, Albany Pine Bush, and the Sierra Processing Facility. Throughout the week students experienced the transportation side of planning through the use of CDTA and the CDPHB bicycles.  These opportunities allowed students to experience the diversity of the Capital Region firsthand, and interact with selected regional leaders who make key planning decisions in our communities. At the end of the week students developed and presented a solution that addressed land use, transportation, energy, waste, or a food systems issue to a panel of regional planners for feedback.  Panelists included Marissa Peck from Capital Roots, Todd Fabozzi from the Capital District Regional Planning Commission, and Craig Warner from the Town of Malta Board.  Students received valuable feedback on their project ideas.
The Capital Region FLIP Program was a successful pilot program this summer, that we plan to expand next summer, and is modeled after the highly successful FLIP program offered by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP).

For more information about the program or to become involved with it for next year,  please contact Kate Maynard at CRDPC at  kate.maynard@cdrpc.org  or Adrienne Snow at the Clean Tech ECHS at  asnow@bscsd.org .

The Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (Clean Tech ECHS) was developed by the Ballston Spa Central School District in partnership with Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The program has grown regionally from originally serving 25 students from two school districts in 2011, to now serving almost 300 students from 19 school districts in ten counties. Juniors and seniors in the program earn up to 24 college credits from HVCC in this ECHS model that was established in 2011. In 2013 the program was designated by Governor Cuomo as a New York State P-TECH school, providing additional support as the program continues to grow and serve more students from a regional perspective. Students in the program have the option to explore one of four career pathways including Clean Energy; Computer Science & Information Systems; Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Innovation; and Nanotechnology/Mechatronics.
