Clean Tech ECHS Summer Fun!

Our Clean Tech ECHS freshmen and sophomores continued to explore STEM topics during their week long summer bridge programs in July. Our 9th graders took an exciting trip to the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY and visited the "Wild Walk". The teams of students used that experience to create videos to demonstrate their understanding of how the Wild Center is modeling sustainability, giving them an introduction to learning about sustainability with their first of many video projects.

Tenth graders began their exploration of the career pathways; Clean Energy, Computer Science, Entrepreneurship, and Mechatronics through collaboration on projects including solar cookers, an hour of code, creation of a food truck business, and circuit building. Students learned about the GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 8 facility and participated in tours of Applied Robotics, Finch Paper, 1st Playable, Guyson Corporation, Kasselman Solar, Level 3 Communications, and the Severino Center at RPI. Students had the opportunity to connect with mentors and discuss their challenges and successes with them. There are more exciting adventures to come their way as they start the school year!

The Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (Clean Tech ECHS) was developed by the Ballston Spa Central School District in partnership with Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The program has grown regionally from originally serving 25 students from two school districts in 2011, to now serving almost 300 students from 25 school districts in ten counties. Juniors and seniors in the program earn up to 24 college credits from HVCC in this ECHS model that was established in 2011. In 2013 the program was designated by Governor Cuomo as a New York State P-TECH school, providing additional support as the program continues to grow and serve more students from a regional perspective. Students in the program have the option to explore one of four career pathways including Clean Energy; Computer Science & Information Systems; Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Innovation; and Nanotechnology/Mechatronics.
