Snow Clearing: Do Your Part!

Thank you to the members of our public works, parks and recreation, and sewer departments for their efforts in clearing the snow after last weekend’s storm. We are also grateful for our first responders who kept our community safe. 

Residents play an important role in clearing snow and keeping our community safe. Please do not put snow into the roadway as you clear your driveway or sidewalk. To prevent snow from being plowed back in, throw snow down drift or to the right of the driveway when facing the street. Remember to clear the snow away from your mailbox and report any damaged mailboxes. Find reporting information and more winter safety tips here.

Presentation at TC Meeting

The township committee has prioritized creating safe pedestrian and bicycle connections to and from the Montgomery Municipal Center on Orchard Road. We are happy to announce the township has received $3.5 million in state grant funding to implement the projects. Residents are invited to learn more about planned projects at the next township committee meeting on March 5. 

Once completed, these projects will connect the municipal center to the Route 206 commercial area at Village Drive and west along Orchard Road to Orchard Hill Elementary School. These are the places residents travel to most – our civic buildings, businesses, and schools. Improving these connections will reduce congestion, support local business, and give residents a safer way to walk or bike.

Louis Bay II Scholarship Competition

The New Jersey League of Municipalities has announced the annual Louis Bay II Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition for high school juniors and seniors planning to continue their education. 

Participants are invited to apply and submit an essay expressing “What I Like About My Hometown.” One essay will be selected and the writer will represent the township as a state semi-finalist. Their essay and application will then be reviewed by the league’s Scholarship Committee who will select three winners to receive $1,000. Applicants and essays must be sent to tnovak@montgomerynj.gov by 4 p.m. on March 12. Interested applicants can find more information and supporting documents here. 

The avian influenza (H5N1) has recently caused the deaths of wild birds across New Jersey. Although the risk is low, we are reminding residents not to handle, touch, or attempt to assist sick or deceased birds. If you see sick or dead birds, particularly in groups of 5 or more, please report your findings using the NJDEP Wild Bird Disease Reporting Form. Find more information from NJDEP here. 

Thank you to the 76 people who attended our free rabies clinic this past weekend. Pet licensing is still open. Licensing ensures the protection of pets, their owners, and members of the community against rabies and other communicable diseases. It also enables lost pets to be quickly reunited with their owners. Find more information on licensing here.
